Replacement for Arcam 8SE Cd ?

Hi Guys, My beloved Arcam 8SE CD player cannot be economically repaired. What replacements should I be looking at..either s/h or new ? I have an Arcam 8 amp with small Castle speakers and the combination was lovely and rich. Acton Audio in Wrexham (lovely chaps) have kindly loaned me a Marantz CD6004 but it sounds thin compared to the Arcam. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have the Arcam CD73T. Superb VFM.

Really depends on your budget. If minimal then look at Rotel RCD 965 or 975. When it comes to CDPs I'd look at Arcam's FMJ CD17 http://www.richersounds.com/product/cd-players-recorders-dacs-cassette-decks/arcam/fmj-cd17/arca-cd17-blk.

For used/discontinued players arcam Alpha 9, Alpha 5 Plus/Alpha 6 or NAD C542. For a new player Rega's Apollo-R.

Definitely worth keeping an eye on ebay. Even if you get something you don't like, you should be able to re-sell it without much of a loss.

I like Arcam kit, and I was very happy with my CD192, so I'd say maybe give one of those a go. They seem to be holding their value fairly well, but you may pick up a bargain. My pristine example will be on there shortly, but other sellers are available

Thanks very much for all the advice.

I suppose my budget is somewhere around £300 (not a lot I know, in audiophile terms, but if I know what to look out for I can maybe find something used or ex demo). The Marantz is approx £270. It is great value.

Having listened to the set up again today, it seems to be much better when playing acoustic guitar (John Martin), violin etc rather than rock music (Fleetwood Mac).

Some of the suggestions I have never heard of but it seems I need to acquaint myself with these new names.

Any more advice much appreciated.
