Having just picked up a bargain touch from Amazon I was wondering if anyone had any NAS recommendations? The buffalo linkstation duo 4tb (or perhaps 6tb) looks like the sort of thing I would want, but any other suggestions (or warnings against the buffalo) gratefully received. I would be using the NAS in raid 1 format to stream music and act as a file server for the family

The Synology DS212j comes recommended, if you want to spend the money.

I've just recently purchased one and set it up (and still learning its many secrets). Mine's 4Tb Raid 1 with two WD drives.

Thanks, I will take a look at that.

They have a downloadable SBT add-on available, so it should be good with your new bargain!

I have a Netgear ReadyNas Ultra 2. Comes with the software preloaded. Hasn't missed a beat so far. Atom 1.6 based so it's plenty fast enough too.

Hi,

If you're reasonably technical then have a look at the HP Microserver and install Vortexbox on it. If you install a basic CD-ROM drive inside it, Vortexbox has a nice utility to automatically rip CDs and add them into the Squeezebox library.

Also, the HP unit has a suitable processor to support the Spotify plugin should you be interested in using Spotify at some point. Installing additional plugs into a NAS unit tends to be a bit limited depending on the device.

Cheers, Mark.

Whats the difference between this and the ready NAS Duo 2?

The CPU is better/faster and there is more RAM too. You are going to need these for a large collection, not so much for a small one. YMMV.

Thanks. Looks like an interesting solution, but a bit more sophisticated than I need.
