I have done blind listening tests and heard differences, my wife has been in the other room and has heard differences. I have even had an engineer come to my place who didnt believe cables make a difference and now he convinced.

How do you go with the vast amount of anecdotal evidence saying people do hear differences? Are 90% of hifi geeks wrong?

It's more to do with the terminologuy they employ to describe the differences they heard. Night and day is a favourite. More air is another. Greater space. Deeper blacks. A range of adjectives that mean absolutely nothing when it comes to detailing what someone means.

My own personal favourite came about thanks to this magazine. Back in 2007, they listed Van den Hul's "The Name" in the buying guide. It sort of went something like "this cable will transform your system...stunning dynamics...." on the single line entry. £60 for a 1m pair. I'd been using a pair of Audioquest Turquoise interconnects for years beforehand, with my then Linn Mimik CD player and a Marantz PM-6010KI amp. Bought them. Plugged them in. The lack of the transformation and supposed dynamism just had to be heard to be (not) believed. Went through all my reference tracks, The Yes Album's Starship Trooper, Genesis' Mad Man Moon and Entangled, and a good few others.

Nothing to do with hard of hearing, there are no magical properties in any of this. It's down to descriptions, what people hear, how they are influenced and finding common terms that everyone understands and can apply equally across the board. Air, Space, Night and Day and many others don't do that job as these things differ from one person to the next in the context in which they're used.

The only occasion I can recall Mrs DDC saying something interesting about the hi-fi was a few years ago when I was listening to a Prom concert on Radio 3.

She came into the room and asked what the bl**dy awful music was, she said is was terrible, like someone had died.

It's funny the number of cable sceptics who just happened to be passing by a friend's house and walked in.

Sorry, but that statement proves beyond doubt that the differences are purely imaginary, and confirms zero credibility for all the claims made.

Which cables have you tried "that haven't made a difference", and on what kit?

For all the sceptics I can hear ten ( or more as you wish) different cabels on the same system and hear it for 5 minutes every time than on a blind test I will identify which cabel is it on 100 % sucsess ( you can test me on speakers and amps as well ) so don't tell me cabels aren't making any difference just admit that your hearing is not sensitive enough !

Be interesting to know how many of these experts have actually done cable blind testing.

My guess says none. I'm not remotely interested in cables, life's far too short, but it does seem there's a handful of armchair activists who refuse too accept that there's maybe a chance the vast majority aren't simply stupid and misguided, but genuinely do hear benefits. Most also have probably never done the stringent testing they're all so willing to advocate themselves.

I have also tried them on professional studio/Music equipment and once again there was no difference. (The studio engineers just shake their heads, as to how Hi Fi Nuts can be so gullible)

If you ever get the chance to go into a studio to hear proper sound equipment, do so, as you will be amazed at how poor the sound reproduction of your top end Hi Fi system really is.

I can only comment on the brands that I've heard......which is why I asked.

IME. They don't always make a difference, but when they do, that difference is not always for the better.

If you have a reasonable hifi system and get the chance to insert TQ Black cables into it (including the mains cable).....I will be amazed if you don't hear a very noticeable difference. Either way, i would like to hear what you think.

And yet when James Randi offered $1m to anyone who could tell the difference between $7k cable and $100 speaker cable no one came forward to take his money. Even the guy that made the £7k cable bottled it and wouldn't take the test. Where were you or are you so rich that $1m wasn't worth the bother? Why didn't you take the Harbeth challenge and pick up some free speakers while you were at it?

When did I imply or suggest I thought I would pass them. The whole point is that no one will and all the people making big claims don't have the guts to try.

I have done various tests. The A/B sighted tests told me that further testing of cables was not warranted.

As I said earlier, if there's such a difference then someone can make two recordings in his-res, one with expensive cable one without. Load them into ABX comparator on foobar2000 and then all will be proven - 'night and day' differences will be there. Not hard to do at all so why has no cable manufacturer done it and published results?
