As per the title, a friend of mine has a Quad 303 pre/power combination that needs an overhaul.

Could anyone recommend a good place to have this work carried out in addition to Quad themselves?

Also, I have no idea about the capabilities of these amps, so are there any particular speakers unsuitable to use with these?

Volumes will most likely not be disco levels and a standmount speaker would probably seem to be the favoured approach.

Budget, absolutely no help here, but I thought Spendor, PMC or Harbeth as the usual suspects for a starter and auditioning as many as possible was my advice, but that will perhaps be limited to whatever is stocked within a certain radius of Norwich.

Before anyone else gets it in, this is definitely for a friend (not me).

Hi Overdose, I know that Fidelity Audio have had Quad amps in at there workshop. Here's a link to an upgrade they undertook, they may take on renovation work.

There is a guy near Huntingdon that renovates Quad, I will try to find his details, he was either on here or some other forum. Will have to be tomorrow now.

I have "refreshed" my Quad 303 power amp with a NET Audio kit. They have a number of upgrades that can be done to the Quad 33/303 line. Check them out here: http://www.net-audio.co.uk/

I have the 303 connected to Monitor Audio RX6 speakers with a Beresford Caiman as pre-amp/source.

Hope this helps!

THank you very much for that. It does help.

How did you find the quality of the workmanship?

I actually bought the capacitors and PSU board kit and solder it myself. I would imagine that since NET Audio design their own kits, if you have the work done by them it will be as close as to "factory-fitted"...
