Ps3 fan

Hi I have a ps3 not slim version When I switch it on after 15 min sometimes longer the fan comes on and stays on for ages Before going off the ps3 is on a rack so plenty of ventilation does any one know why and Repair costs it's pretty loud so can be annoying worried it may stop working all together had it For 3 yrs no warranty and 1st time it has had a faulty i hardly use it so not sure why this has happened Happens when playing games and blu rays

Dust must've settled on its fans, possibly blocking the vents.

Try an air duster in the vents to shift some dust, and maybe change it from vertical to flat or the other way round.

cant keep it vertical as no room for that but will try thr air duster

i have two phats one down stairs one up,the upstairs one is silant(in ps3 terms)and the downstairs one sound like it wants to take off.

exactly the same as yours within 10 minutes of being on it starts and will stay like that till it goes off most the time

I also have the fat playstation 3 and find that it heats up in a horizontal position but keeps much cooler in the vertical position. You may want to try taking it off the rack and placing it on the floor and use it in the vertical position then perhaps replace it on the rak after use.

Yup, mine does the same, but to be honest i think its down to the room temperature, my flat is damn hot in the summer and the guestimate ive come to is the ps3 hits a temperature threshold and the fan kicks in over time. Any pc does the same. Try sticking to hoover nozzle on the side vent maybe?

Not sure if this works on ps3 slim but does on the fat. Try reversing the fan by switching it off at the back then switch back on while holding the eject button, reverses the fan for 30 secs blowing out all the dust and ps3 runs quieter for a while.
