Hi All,

Can anyone point me to anything reference projectors -

As in - set up, placement, types - you know just about everything.

I wish to ceiling mount a screen (approx 6 to 7 feet across) to fall in front of my plasma and ceiling mount the projector with a distance between them of 3.5m, the intention being of ending up with a 77" (diagonal) picture.

My amp was purchased with this intention as it has 2 HDMI outs.

Short list so far for demo - Screen and Projector so feel free to add any suggestions or recommendations.

Many thanks.

I posted some information about projector placement specs a while ago in the following thread.

And on the advantages of projectors in the following thread

Lcos/Dila projectors like the Sony you have short listed are the best current technology by far. JVCs LCOS projectors are generally viewed as being the best due to their higher simultaneous contrast ratio than the Sonys.

I can not offer advise on different screen materials as I personally use a white painted wall (Dulux Light & Space Absolute White Rich Matt, with lumitec technology) in a dedicated batcave. I have read that Stewart screens are highly regarded.

A couple of things to consider - are you going ot mount the screen on the wall or the ceiling? If on the ceiling you will need to make sure you have enough of a top drop for the bottom of the screen to come down far enough. If that is the case a projector with good lens shift may be required.

The Sony is an excellent projector and its main rival is the Panasonic PTAE4000. We are split almost 50:50 on sales from demonstration for these products, the Sony is bit brighter so ideal if you have ambient light - if you can get the room totally dark then the Pansonic excels.

Both are the same price so you can pick the one that suits your needs the best.
