Afetr much highly satisfactory viewing this morning my TH42PX80B emmitted a loud crack (I was out of the room and heard it clearly upstairs) and has gone dead. the stand-by light it off, the set is completely unresponsive, but power still 'hums' from the back as usual.

I have contacted John Lewis who promised to get somebody to call me back within 24 hours.

Can I just ask two questions. Does this sound like a serious fault? Is it common to this set?

And secondly is there anything I can do to make sure this is sorted effectvely. It is only about 16 months into a 5 year guarentee.

Thanks for any pointers.

UPDATE: spoke again to the exceedingly good people of JL. Seems even with the set unseen they are to offer me a replacement of up to the value of what I paid (£899!).

Anyone any good ideas??

Hi CharlotteB

Sounds like a very nasty failure to me. I'd definitely get a replacement with the money JL has offered you. Breakdowns of this nature are generally rare on Panasonic's, so will you go for another Panasonic or are you thinking of something else?

Thanks for this Andy, I am thinking of the TX-P42G10B. As I do like the 42 and the plasma as I watch a LOT of movies and some HD sport.

Is this a good choice or might there be anything better for the same price??

Thbnks again

I think you've made the right choice. It's most certainly the choice I would have made if I were in your position.
