Playstation3 multi-region

There is a video shop near me that rents region 1 DVD's the only problem is my PS3 wouldn't play it. Is it possible to get the PS3 region free for DVD's? Do blueray discs fall in to different regions too?

No region-free hack/modification for the PS3 that I know of. And yes, there's a region-coding system for Blu-ray Disc titles.

you was unlucky because most of the Region 1 Disks will play on the uk PS3 , Alot of the ones from Fox are Region locked to Region 1 only but most of them work because i buy most of my Blu-Rays from America at half the price.

Yup, that's true of some region free Blu-Rays from the US, but not DVDs (certainly none of the Region 1 DVDs I own will play on my PS3).
