paring sony mdr-ds6500 headphones with optical to sony str-da2400es reciever.

hi everyone, being a newbie to this site I need some help please, just bought some decent headphones that I can use when the missus has gone to bed as I like to hear stuff quite loud. as in the title I have a ps3 and virgin box connected to my reciever via both hdmi and optical. there is a spare optical connecter on the back but this is labelled as tv optical in.

opened the new headphones that come with an optical cable but am struggling to find out how to connect them as both instruction books are useless, or me being thick. Any help is appreciated even if just to say buy something else........

all i want is to take the phones off the stand and this automatically switches them on, diverts the sound to the phones, is this possible?

forgot to add, I think I need an optical out, but there is not one on the reciever...

Not sure, but how about line out on the receiver (tape out) to the line in on the Sony base station using standard phono leads?

thx, was hoping to get the optical running, using phonos is a last resort
