Panasonic dmp-bd80 and free multiregion upgrade

I am new to viewing the blu ray players but have noticed that a dealer is offering a free multi region upgrade on the Panasonic DMR80. Would this affect the warrenty or could this even impact on the quality of play back because the software has been altered?

I have checked with the dealer and the upgrade is through a software edit.

all it is a hack of the software to give multi region DVD play back that is normally not a problem with warrenty (So i hear) But multi region for BD playback is normally a hardware change and then the warrenty would have to be supported by the seller/modder as you will notb have the makers cover.
