Good morning guys,

I need a new amp for my q acoustics 3050 and marantz6005 cd player.

I have the chance to take one of the two amp in the subject at the same price; I love a wider, fast and detailed sound, and I don't know what is the best of two.

What do you think?

thank you very much in advance!

Sorry for my little english...

Dan

Hallo Leak,

As you already have Marantz cd player, why don't you try the Marantz PM6005. I own a PM6004 I think That for this amp fast, detailed and with a wilde sound stage sums it up quite nicely.

Hi Peter, thank you for your reply. I consider now to try the 6004 or the 6005 even if they are a little more expensive of onkyo e yam.. thank you

No thanks! An advantage I forgot to mention is that you can operate the Marantz equipment with just one remote control. Also I think that equipment of the same brand are designed to complement each other both visually and by ear.

I'm not so sure about this. I have a pm6002 and prefer it partnered with the yamaha cd player I now have over the marantz cd5001 I used to have. The yamaha adds an assertiveness to the softer, warm sound the 2 marantz made together. So partnering 2 items of the same brand is maybe not always right? Also in this case the pm6005 is a lot more expensive than the other 2 choices, partly because of the digital outputs you may or may not need. I'm not saying the pm 6005 is a bad choice, just that it is not a given.

I don't know where you are based....... in my memory I think it might be true that the onkyo 9010 is a different specification in the uk than elsewhere in the world. The outside uk one has a dac and digital inputs, but the uk version has no dac but is tuned to give a warmer sound and has some improved components to give that sound. You might want to research this further.

Interesting comment Slice. I have a CD5004 and together with either a PM6004 or PM7003 I find the CD5004 quite clinical. That goes to show you that the old saying beauty is in the eyes of the beholder also applies to our ears. Perhaps it is possible for Leak to audition his selected amps first before he buys.

Fair comment. Would be better to audition, + speakers will affect the outcome as well.
