Onkyo 875 Upscaling - quest for Andrew or anyone in the know

i have my wii plugged into my 875 using component cable - the 875 upscales and send to my tv via the hdmi cable but the picture i have on screen has borders all round it - not sure if this is cause the game i was player was in 4:3 or because of a setting on the amp to get full screen? With thanks

Suggests that the game in question is determining the format - the Onkyo only upscales what it 'sees'.
