Off the shelf external aerials

I have just had the house re-roofed and whilst the scaffold is up and I have easy access to the Chimney, I'm thinking of installing an FM aerial. I can then repatriate my old FM Arcam tuner (currently gathering dust in the garage) with my Hifi.

Anybody bought in the aerial themselves and fitted it?

I've seen cheap and cheerful options at B&Q and Maplins. £15-£20 each plus the cost of the cable (which will be dearer than the cost of the aerial!). Are these up to much?

Pete, I would consider whether it is worth it considering the following article re switching to digital from FM and AM radio. If you do consider it is worth it the cheap options sound best.
