4 Oscars? What for I ask?

It was the bigget load of rubbish I've seen in a while

A Psycotic Killer going around with a coin in his hands, trying to pursue a Trailer Park Bum who had taken his $2M and a totally disinterested Sherrfif in the form of Tommy Lee Jones who focussed more on his imminent retirement throughout the film than getting involved in an investigation to bring the killer to justice

This is the most disjointed story I have seen in a while and one thing it has driven home to me...and that is never trust these idiotic film critics who seem to think that the sun shines out from these films backsides

And what language was Tommy Lee Jones speaking...Texas Martian!? You couldn't make out anything he was saying with any great clarity

Trully this was a S**ty film and one which I shall make sure I never have the pleasure of ever watching again, yet films like this win awards...God what Tripe!

Oh by the way....fantastic ending....I think not!

I'm just glad I didn't buy the the film on either DVD or Blu Ray or else I would have willingly put it in my bin

Absolute Rubbish!

This is the Funniest thing i have read in a long time

Can i ask what u would class as a good film

Glad you think my remarks are funny...I thought so too esepcially when the film finished and both my wife and I had a good old 5 minute chuckle having wasted 117 minutes of our lives watching tripe!

A good Film? How about something like 'The Road to Perdition' with Tom Hanks, Paul Newman and Jude Law, to name but just one of many I could list, or how about 'The Untouchables' with Sean Connery, Andy Garcia and Kevin Costner...or for sheer escapism and entetainment 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' , 'The last Crusade' and 'The Adventures of Robin Hood' the 1939 Errol Flynn, Claude Rains and Basil Rathbone classic film but certainly not No Country for Old ......and very boring and uneventful....Men

Was it the story you had a problem with? Cormac McCarthy is a fantastic writer, I am halfway through 'The Road' at the moment which won the Pulitzer prize - another superb book.

I loved No Country for Old Men and can see why it won so many Awards - the sense of time, scale and place offered by the production, direction and cinematography skills alone are awesome.

Yes, it's not a standard narrative, nor an easy watch (the Blu-ray sat on my shelf for a week before I felt sufficiently in the mood for it), but I for one am thankful that there's such thoughful, intricate film-making going on in a Hollywood that's happier going for the big bangs or cheap thrills.

Don't get me wrong, I love the blockbusters, too, but it'd be a sad world if we only had formulaic fun to watch!

Fair play good to see people watching good films for a change it is usually some Jason Statham rubbish or a AVP sequel claiming they are the greatest movie ever made just because they have a loud soundtrack to them After working here for six years i am still waiting for some one to bring a film in to test a system that is any good(why has all bad films got great soundtracks)

You should give it another go because it is one great film up there with Blood simple and Fargo two other Coen Brothers classics and as for your choice of films good on you Robin Hood is one on the greastest films ever made in my eyes and any one who dont like it should never watch a film again and that goes for Raiders two.You should give David Finchers Zodiac and Alex Paynes Sideways a try my mosted watched film in the last year (film at its best)

I quite enjoyed 'No Country' though i wouldn't go any further than to say it's an 'ok' film, and nothing more. Thought the ending was rubbish.

Maybe i just don't get the Coen Brothers as i also turned Fargo off halfway through. Bored the pants off me.

I disagree Frank. Anyone that can slam No Country For Old Men like that will NEVER like it. For me it's probably the best film in the last 10 years - stunning. As Claire said, the cinematography was jaw dropping. Bardem's character has to be one of the most frightening in cinema history. There were comedic moments, brilliant script, all in all a perfect film. Zodiac is up there for me too - I just loved it (recently bought it on Bluray). And I agree also, Sideways was a joy.

Each to their own - I don't like Arnie films or James Bond.

I also thought it was a very good film. Each to their own. Sometimes I disagree with the general opinion e.g. couldn't get on with Donnie Darko personally and everyone thinks I'm mad for that.

EDIT - if you're reading this thread and haven't seen the film, don't read the first post on the second page since it gives away the ending!!

Tallyho, I've just read this from you and I'm astonished!!! Road To Perdition is (imo) THE worst film to have won an Oscar EVER!!! I actually mouthed the last five or six lines as it was so predictable. I love Hanks, Newman et al and I cannot believe that they signed up for it.

ITS AN AMAZING FILM. Its so well made, Went i saw it in the cinema after the first 10minutes i just new this film would be astounding. To me its the best pieces of cinema made in a long time. The reason tommy lee jones seemed disinterested was because he was scared of dying like his father had done. No country for old men - he is the old man and he shouldnt be involved in the situation that was going on, but yet he still did his job and pushed forward to try and help "the trailer park bum". Maybe you should stick to watching harry potter films or pirates of the carribean.

Great film, not all good films need happy endings. So what if the "good guy" died..he stole money which wasnt his, put money before his family and then even when he was a step ahead of Chigur he gets tempted by another woman which leads to his death..so you could ask was he the real good guy?? Tommy Lee tried to do as much as he could as an old officer near retirement, but why should he put his life in danger for a bum? The only real "hero" in this film is Chigur who does what is natural to him and lives by his own principles.

Im gonna watch it tonight, hopefully with a open mind as it seems pretty split on who likes it and doesnt on here. Couple of friends have said it rocks though and it looks like the sort of film i like anyway. Coen brothers are good at creating clever, twisting, annd very watchable plots too. Bring it on.

I'll be honest, I love Coen Brothers films (apart from The Man That Wasn't There) but I know they are an acquired taste. However, No Country For Old Men is a different sort of film for them. My missus doesn't like Fargo, Oh Brother et al, and I played this film without telling her who was involved. I gave it 30 mins and told her it was the Coens and she just said, "Sssh". It's now on of her faves too.

Awesome flick. Refreshing and thought provoking. Probably one the best films I've seen since American Beauty (oh and Cloverfield...I know it's not in the same league, but it was quite a unique experience in my opinion :O )

Now, you strike me as an open minded kinda guy.

Ahem.

Some folk just didnt like NCFOM. on account, indeed, of its being rubbish.

EDIT - sideways, cloverfield, zodiac; all quality films. Tho, due to the sheer simplicity of it, im not sure cloverfield bears that many repeat viewings, for me.

EDIT American Beauty wasnt bad either.

Yeah i appologize for my outburst of saying stick to harry potter movies. I was very stressed at the time i wrote that. I realize everyone has different tastes and thats good. Just someone majorly insulting one of my fav movies annoyed me even more. lol.

With regards to cloverfield, i did enjoy the 1st viewing but yeah i dont think i could watch it alot. 2nd time wasnt anywhere near as good for me. I enjoyed Zodiac alot. Also a film a loved on 1st viewing was the prestige. I need to get that on blu ray. Loved the twist, even tho it was obvious.

did like zodiac, mainly for its good smooth, non-gimmicky style and ol' fashioned story telling. Must see the prestige again, too.
