In which case it may not sound better and bigger than the Marantz......The amp is more than 30 years old , it needs to be serviced, the capacitors is only rated at a few 1000 hours or to replace them every 15-20 years

And who knows whether it would, as far as the OP's ears are concerned...?Not if it's capacitors are shot.
Just so, I wonder if anyone has actually heard this NAD with a pair of AR5's.....And who knows whether it would, as far as the OP's ears are concerned...?
I think that despite the certainty shown elsewhere, that the answer is probably a big fat 'no'!Just so, I wonder if anyone has actually heard this NAD with a pair of AR5's.....
I often wonder how many people in the whole world might have tried some obscure combinations.Just so, I wonder if anyone has actually heard this NAD with a pair of AR5's.....
If they have I'd guess it was a long time ago. I remember hearing AR speakers in Laskys circa 1978. Cannot recall what amp or how they sounded.Just so, I wonder if anyone has actually heard this NAD with a pair of AR5's.....
unfortunately another member of this forum believes he knows otherwise.Problem is, which is fairly unique, we can't advise the OP any further until:
1) the speakers work
2) if they're any good with his NAD amp
3) if no good with the amp, he'll need to work out his max budget.
Which is why I wondered why a certain member could state, in his opinion, the NAD is better than a modern amp......I often wonder how many people in the whole world might have tried some obscure combinations.
In this case, both fairly popular products, but at different times....probably not many...
...still got my JVC KD-21 cassette deck, pretty sure I bought it in 1978 (44 years ago 😱) from Comet.... circa 1978.
It is amazing what people have stashed away: I've still got my Wharfedale E20, Garrard B20 table and Marantz tuner in the attic. Pretty much from the same era.
It's presumptuous for that member to confidently state a ancient NAD is better than a a modern Marantz.unfortunately another member of this forum believes he knows otherwise.
The speakers are free so doesn't matter whether or not they work...
His NAD 'receiver' appears to still work......
Is 25wpc enough to drive his free speakers?
I very much doubt it....
What, that's the description you'd put with those photos on e-bay is it James? They are what I would call original condition
I was actually thinking less, but if you have that sort of budget then great, you're still well within great value territory.£750... Is that the kind of spend to be looking at?
Get your wife to bring her favourite music to the speaker demo......perhaps phone ahead and get them to hide the prices though 👍... And who doesn't approve of any of my plan! 🙄😭
Time for some quid pro quo bargaining?... And who doesn't approve of any of my plan! 🙄😭
