new system or just speakers

hi all.

i currently have an onkyo 577 and tannoy sfx 5.1 with ixos hd cables and cambridge sub link and micro speaker cable.the problem is i think i am missing something in the top end of sound quality. i am happywith the bass sound but the fronts sound strangled at high volume.

i use the system for both film and music about 60/40.

any pearls of wisdom from you guys/gals out there
