Hi, I have seen russ andrews has introduced a new power supply for all project turntables for £99. My question is, would the benefits of getting a better power supply enhance the sound from my turntable? Or would I be better off selling my 2m red cartridge and upgrade it to the 2m blue? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Hugo

Phono stage mate,phono stage. Then mess around with carts. For a hundred quid i would hazard a guess any phono in that price range will bladder the onboard one that you are using. Think about it mate, one is an upgrade in sound quality for sure. The other is a piece of wire with a plug on it.

I'm not disagreeing. I have always wondered if a separate phono stage would do wonders but people always have told me that a £100 phono stage will be the same as the built in phono stage of the Roksan Kandy amp?? do you think that is true?

Good point, hadn't spotted that. If the onboard phono stage is really that weak, then go for something like the Regas, Lehmann or Clearaudio, they'll give you a definite lift in performance. Avoid CA, NAD and Pro-ject's own cheapies, they're distinctly average. Tried most of them, learnt to my cost.

Personaly,i doubt it Hugo. But if poss try to borrow a half decent phono and listen for yourself, your ears will tell you if its an upgrade or if you need to spend more to surpass the onboard jobbie.
If you can find a second hand dino for around 150 quid, well just buy it.

Just checked out clearaudio. Nano phono stage is £211.00- not bad at all, price wise & looks really smart. going to check the others now..

No worries mate. There is a review on tinterweb in regards to the clearaudio that you mentioned. I think the mods on here will hammer it if i post a link as i think it would be regarded as a rival or summat like that. So have a search around. Matey compares it to the onboard phono in his macintosh amp. You will be interested to read what his findings were.

The Dino is definately better than Roksan's internal. I ran the same amp up until last year. Tried the Dino and there was a noticeable difference with mm cartridge and even better with low output mc cartridges.

Agreed. I have upgraded from the red to the blue and upgraded the power supply which were both beneficial but the Dino is the one to go for. I had a Kandy and thought the phono stage was poor. Even buying a cambridge p540 bettered it.
