Hi guys,

Had a demo of the JL subwoofers (E112) and I was mightily impressed with them. These are the entry models and go for around 2k each. The Fathom about 1k more and the Gotham goes for about 10k! (The Gotham also weighs 320lbs >) )

Thats a rough outline of the 12 inch units.

I found them to be clean, powerful and possess the ability to go really low. I had a demo with two 12 inch units in one room and it really punched through me. In fact my shirt was moving from the force of these subs and they were situated behind me!. Lets just say you will not be needing a buttkicker with these in the room (Big Boss Im thinking of you :))

Has anybody else had a demo of these? Would be interesting to hear what you thought? I would strongly advise anyone thinking of a sub to try them out and would even go as far as saying that they punch above thier price point.

Hi duaplex

I agree and good to hear that you liked the performance of the new E-112 sub woofers 8) E-110 and E-112 subwoofers were longer than expected but in the end they were worth the wait

We've been recently using Anthem's MRX 510 (with Anthem Room Correction), Focal JM Lab Electra 1008Be (FL, FR), Electra CC 1000Be (C), Aria 906 (RL, RR) and two E-112 stacked (front) and a Fathom f212 (back) Believe me when i say that the performance from this set up is simply scary

Today i'll be using the MRX 510 and the Fathom f212 and subsituting the main speakers the E-112's for Monitor Audio's Silver 10 (FL, FR) Silver Centre and Silver 2 (RL, RR) and a Fathom f113. Should be fun

Btw, the Gotham subwoofer is not available in the UK yet.

All the best

I've always had a ton of respect for JL as a subwoofer maker, but they just don't seem to be very well represented in the UK. If their in-car audio is anything to go by, there's going to be plenty of curtain rattling...

Trust me there is, and its powerful. It managed to penetrate the thick leather sofa and punch thorugh me. I love my bass and even I thought it was too much! But in a good way :)

Adam Rayner says on page 72 of the February 2013 issue, number 217, of Home Cinema Choice magazine, (while reviewing the JL Audio F110 subwoofer) that the flagship Gotham subwoofer may never come to Europe as the amplifier on the back puts out so much RF (Radio Frequency) that it would never get European Union CE marking.

In the meantime, those who didn't buy the December 2012 issue of HCC can download the Reference-rated review of the JL Audio F212 subwoofer here http://www.jlaudio.co.uk/f212-gloss-home-audio-fathom-powered-subwoofers-96150 which also other very favourable rewiews that can be downloaded, further down the page.

Judging by the reviews, I would say that the closest competitor to the JL Audio Fathom F212 subwoofer is the similarly-priced Velodyne DD18+, excellent reviews of which are readliy available on google.

That very much depends on the aspects you're taking into account... :)

I completely acknowlege (spelling?) that I've never even physically seen any of these big subwoofers! I'd be grateful if you could elaborate, David, about the relative merits of the JL Audio Fathom 212 and the Velodyne DD18+ subwoofers, mentioning all aspects!!

I actually heard they possess medical benefits, such as treating plaque buildup in your coronary arteries.

Boss - do you care to elaborate?

I am in the market for a new sub.

Considering the SVS SB13 Ultra atm - seems very suited to what I need - 60-30hz clean - anything lower than 30hz is a bonus and will probably be a mode fest anyway in my room

Deep down and originally I wanted a F113 - however the price is restrictive hence me looking at other options. What can an F113 be had for?

If it somewhere reasonable I could be tempted

I have been recommended a Velodyne SPL 1200 Ultra over the SVS SB13 Ultra ?? The many glowing reviews of the SVS making it very appealing depsite having an SMPS Power Supply

I do not need any of the eq in the Velodne so there is a chunk of the cost of it watsed on me

I use to own the Velodyne SPL 1200 R (previous model to the Ultra), which was very impressive.....but they've had a serious price hike in recent years.

Paradigm are also worth considering....I've heard the Seismic 110, which is the best small Sub that I've heard.

There is some interesting reviews on home theatre shack - Sub Zone.

The DXD scores really well but the SVS SB13 ultra comes out on top on distortion figures to 28hz - my expected range

I am going to see if i can get a home demo of the SVS and the JL f112.

I use / setup a sub differently to most - hard knee house curv.

I want good output at 30hz - most sealed subs taper off in their response that low so thats why i think the svs will suit this better. That appears linear in its response to 30hz which is amazing really for a sealed sub. with room.boost it should give me the response i am after

Will see if the JL is worth the extra and if it can do what i need.

I am.sure the f113 will but the extra cost pushes it so high

The DXD is a good sub too and always scores highly. It is very precise in what it does and for most its a little undesirable, only because it does not behave like a sub you are familiar with. Very clinical and clean like most of Ken's speakers, if thats your thing than the DXD is for you :)

Personally having heard both, I prefered the JL and I was toiling between the E112 and the F112, now thanks to Rick I am thinking of the F113!!

Sound and vision did a pretty good review on Subs, worth a read!

I'd disagree with the word 'clinical'. Precise and detailed maybe, and due to these qualities, there's no exaggeration of the signal it/they receive. If you haven't heard one, I would highly recommend you do, and for the price of some of the JLs, two is possible, which is a whole new ball game...

JL's have torodial based PSU's that makes them hugely atractive and the f112 appears to have a linear resposne to about 20hz from what I have seen.

This is what we want :)
