Btw I am listening now to a beautiful jazz vinyl (Oscar Peterson, We get requests) and the amount of bass with Jadis and RX6 is stunning...I am quite impressed. I guess the great phonostage is playing a big role here also...

Thank you for the answer.

If you haven't got any, try some Jaques Loussier plays Bach (on Telarc)....wonderful stuff, beautifully recorded Jazz.

Will try for sure, thanks for the advise.

Sorry for not being more helpful but I was also very surprised when we connected the AMS to the SF by the amount of bass present...which at certain moments was more than enough....

At this topic, how would you reduce booming if would start to become a problem and repositioning speakers does not work?

I had the reverse thing happen (sort of). I was so impressed by a pair of Spendor SA1 (with my amp/cdp), in a room a little smaller than you were in, that I took them home to try.

The room here was much bigger, and the poor wee things sounded like a portable....they were completely overwhemed by the room and had almost no bass at all.

Factors effecting boomy bass:

- The speakers are "over-driving" the room.

- ISOLATION. If they are on a suspended wooden floor, it can be a nightmare as the bass is exaggerated by the space below, like a big sound box.

- ACOUSTICS of the room itself and how well/accurately it is damped.

- How capable the amp is of controlling the woofers, which is down to current and damping factor.

- Cables. Some are lean and some are bloated sounding in the bass.

- Speaker positioning/design....where/if the're ported and the amount of free space they need etc.

I can't help feeling that the SF, when fed with the 35i, overwhemed the space they were in....and if on a suspended floor, this would have been magnified further. Remember, the height of the ceiling and the shape of the room all have an effect.

It might be possible...but than same effect would reproduce at home as well since here celiings are quite lower then at the shop.

Thanks a lot!

I will try to update the thread on new amps I might get to hear...or sure I will hear soon the M6i combo (pre+power) and the Pathos Inpol 2. Would also like to hear a Classe amp and an Eletrocompaniet...for the pure pleasure of course ;)

Is either the shop floor, or your floor suspended?

Right at the back of my memory, I had a friend with SF (don't know which model), that had an ingrained problem in an upstairs room, that was only cured with an expensive isolating solution from Track Audio: http://www.trackaudio.co.uk/

Townshend Audio also do (expensive) isolation platforms http://www.townshendaudio.com/hi-fi-vibration-isolation/seismic-sink-platform

Not sure what you mean by suspended. I am right at the ground floor but there are another two floors underneath (-1 and -2) with appartments.

The shop also for sure has a cave underneath the listening room as all the vinyls for sale are stocked down there.

This is what you mean by suspended? For sure it won't be my final appartment as next year we will be probably buying an house to enjoy some more space. One of my concerns is to have a great listening room with maybe a pool table at the back also

I'm no builder, but it is usually where there isn't a solid concrete floor (or wood on concrete), but planks supported on joists, with a space underneath. My old house has a 5' space under the ground floor, which (in my case) robbed the bass, hence the protracted DIY as pictured on Ben's system thread.

I thought the Snooker Room would be next door to the Wine Cellar!

I was more thinking about a 10mt long 4/5 mt wide room with hi-fi and projector on one side, comfortable leather sofa around 3mt further. Then just behind the sofa the snoker table with small bar and wine cellar at the other end of the room

I know what you mean, I'm missing the updates as well.

Just wanted to let you all know that I borrowed the AMS-35 today to run a comparison on the M6 in my apartment.

I'm sold!!! Everything sounds so silky smooth, such rich bass, love it. The M6 just sounds quite cold in comparison. I must admit I was a little worried about how the Diablos sounded with the M6. I know they had to loosen up a bit, but after what Cno had said about them being so forward etc. Well now I remember why I did it, the AMS just brings the best out in them.

I've just offloaded my old speakers & sub on ebay, so these funds will go towards the step up. If all goes to plan I should pick up a nice new black AMS early next week.

I think you have made the right choice (well I would, wouldn't I).....it's the best match with Focal that I've heard, and that includes some much more expensive amps.

I also think that the system will make a big leap forward with a good source.....something musical, but detailed (Linn DS >) )

ahhh, the dangers of spending so much time researching, comparing, testing & thinking & thinking & thinking.......

Honestly, I almost feel a certain sense of relief that this stage of the process is now behind me. While I did enjoy the researching side I spend so much time mulling over the options in my head I am just glad to have made a decision.

Alex, I wouldn't dwell too hard on the AMS. Stay focused on getting the funds together for the new speakers. You made your decision based on the synergy so don't judge until you have both at home working together.

You'll probably always have some degree of second thoughts though! It's the inevitable downside of your chosen hobby!

Roby, if you buy the AMS maybe you & Alex could work out a month on/month off arrangement

Cno,

I've been looking into the Linn Majik. There is one distributor here in Sydney which I'll be going to see over the next few weeks to have a chat with. I can see that they make a quality product, but I still have a number of questions in my head about features/needs. Alot of what I have read so far seems to indicate that it certainly excells in sound quality but there is a pretty steep learning curve with the set-up/operation side of things.

I had pretty much stopped listening to my CD collection, but have been really rediscovering it with the new set-up. I get this real sense of nostalgia having to get up & actually put a disc in the player.

No rush though, as I'm still coming to terms with how my budget (sic) got so out of hand with my speakers & amp! Maybe I should get a job with the government.
