networking on Yamaha rx-v3800

hi ive just purchased a Yamaha rx-v 3800 for a reduced price of £500 I'm trying to figure out what benefits of having networking feature and if its worth setting up, and what i need to set up, i have laptop what else do i need ? can anyone help me thanks , excuse my lack of knowledge in this field ,

hi can anyone advise me on the networking side of the yamaharx-v3800 im wondering if its any good and worth going out and buying the correct cable to set it up,/

Assuming you have a router, you just need to connect a network (RJ45) cable to a spare socket on your router. This will give you access to a host of internet radio staions (all cr*p IMO). More usefully, you can stream music from you PC. You need to be a bit careful here as the Yamaha has a bit of a flaky DNLA client. It works fine with WMP or WMC but can be a pain if you want to connect to a NAS drive (unless you fancy installing Twonky Media player on you NAS drive). I found the playback quality is very respectable with lossless WAV files (but then you need a large hard disk of soeme sort). If you are happy with lossy MP3s and such, then of course it's no problem. If you use WMP, you just need to set up sharing.
