As our living room was occupied I watched a movie on my laptop (with the sound coming through my hi-fi). Now I have serious doubts that I will ever want to get a separate 5.1 system! My good ol' 2.0 sounded so good! The punch for the special effects was there and I didn't feel the need for a subwoofer. RS6s delivered enough bass to shake the room when needed. The dialogue was crystal clear as was the music. An optical out from a BR player maybe all that's needed in the future.

This will save some money on extra amp, cables, speakers...

If you are happy then great, you have saved some money - however, 5.1 with a good sub is a different ball game.

Yes, I realize there will be an improvement in movie viewing experience with a proper 5.1 setup but my point is that the 2.0 is so good that it will more than meet the basic need for a good sound for the ~2-3 movies I watch per month. I was just surprised how close a v.good stereo setup could get to AV nirvana.

A good stereo will thrash a bad 5.1 system - and good 5.1 systems are very, very expensive.
