Marantz SR6009 firmware needed after powerfail

Hello all,

My name is Leo, I am a retired Dutch electronic engineer, now living in Spain.

After a power fail (happens quite often here in the campo) my SR6009 wont turn on anymore.

I know this is an older AVR but I love this machine. I only have a blinking red led, and if I hold the Power button for several seconds it goes solid red, no blinking.
What I have found, this is most likely a corrupted firmware.
There is also nothing on the display.

I checked all the obvious things like voltages on the power supply, fuses, etc.
It seems there is nothing broken, just the firmware no longer working.

The good news, if I power it on by plugging in the power cord while holding the 2 buttons to initiate an USB restore there is the message on the display with the walking dots, so it is trying the SB restore.

As far as I figured out the firmware got corrupted, and via a USB restore it should be possible to bring it back to life.
Can somebody help me please with that file??

The file could be named something like: USB_SR6009K_150083903040-0001.zip (or different if it has another version)

I know it is a longshot, but I really like my Marantz.

Thanks,

Leo

Hi Daytona600,

I know, I already have all of our IT stuff on a UPS, also some voltage suppressors, but in this case it didn't help..
Thanks for the link,

Leo

Hi all, It´s alive!!

I probably was wrong about the firmware being corrupted. (I hope).
I spent more time checking the power supplies, and they were all good, however....
I only checked the =/- 5V, +/- 7V and +12V and these were all spot on. But.. for fun I also checked the +/-22 and +/-57V going to the power amp circuit and there was a fault! In this power supply they start with a low voltage winding of the transformer (17VAC) and after some time a relay switches over to a 44VAC winding.
After more reading I found this is the ECO relay, in the Low Power mode the amp uses a lower DC+ and DC- voltage for the power amp.

It turned out that one side of the power supply always was on 57V, and the other in the start situation of 22V could change.
Further checks learnt that the relay indeed was broken.
Changing this relay was fun (NOT).
You have to completely disassemble the thing to get to the speaker PCB to change the relay.
Now I am in the following situation: It blinks red, but by holding the Power button for 5 seconds it goes to solid red (like being Off)
If I now press Tuner + and Tuner - while powering On it will turn On for about 6-7 seconds.
During that time I can change input and volume settings, but then it turns itself Off, again with a blinking red light. To be continued.

The real problem was the 5,2V main power supply.
This was still not working properly, but now it is.
I needed to replace the TOP256YN again.
I got help from a Marantz service centre.
This very kind person told me that to check I could turn up the main AC voltage from a variac (I have an isolated one )
WHile turning it up the control pin should stop rising at 6,2V, and the TOP256 should start oscillating at 5,5-5,6V.
This is a fairly safe way of testing the stuff without breaking more components.

So in the end there were 3 real faults:
The main power supply, that had the TOP256YN and almost all diodes en zeners gone;
The ECO relais had one contact stuck in the non-ECO setting,
And the volume encoder was dirty. I could flush it out using a high alcohol percentage contact cleaner.

I am a happy bunny again.

Saludos,

Leo
