and you in turn stop chasing Sony until that day.

Probably not the best idea in my opinion. Seems like it would be a convenient way for Sony to forget about the issue. From experience the best way to get answers is to find the right tree and keep barking up it! Sony deserved to be pushed pretty hard on this issue, especially considering their woeful previous response. Really chuffed with WHF for sticking up for the consumer!

I agree! Sony has to answer quick.

Hi all,

I too, was also looking to buy this tv and was shocked to hear all the bad reports about it, i thought that it was just anti sony people complaining about it, after all what hifi gave it 5stars, but as it's a lot of money i called two sony shops and they never heard of any faults from this model, i also emailed sony Ireland but got no reply! So i then went into C***y's and looked for myself and there it was the dreaded clouding, it was more obvious than i expected coming from the bottom right corner, the tv had a wide screen film on so you could really see the clouding in the lower black bar, then i asked if i could see a different film not wide screen but you could still see the clouding coming through the colour, this tv has a major fault and i think sony know about it and don't care, also i noticed the stickers and card saying 46inch bravia covered the corner of the tv, is this sony trying to disguise their problem in the shop so you don't see the problem until you get home.

Im now looking at samsung series 7 and Panasonic plasma, but i think I'll get the samsung its absolutely stunning. Hard luck sony you wont be getting my cash.

where does it tell you it has been assembled in spain etc?

On the box and the back of the TV

I had set my mind on buying the w4500 for gaming on x360, but now im lost !

plasma has burn in and image retention so which is the best for gaming and quality sony or panasonic . guess it all depends on how sony deals with this clouding and bleeding.

if it is as bad the sony kdl40d3500 that i regularly watch then this clouding, bleeding issue could be the end of lcd. dont know if oled lcd's have similar problem.

How is gaming on ur kdl40d3500? I ordered the 40w4500 on the weekend, hoping there wont be any clouding! Mine will primarily be used for gaming on the xbox 360, and with Gears 2 coming out, it better be an exceptional set or il be very disappointed! Il keep u posted how it holds up once i get it!

hey

You dont get plasma screen burn unless you play the same game with the same DOG for 24/7. Pannys are great for image retention (or lack of it), and if you do get a little it washes away after viewing "normal" program. But LCD clouding and bleeding are there for ever.

Update, Sony Customer Services got in touch with me today to say that they're unaware of any problems with backlight bleeding affecting the range. They suggested that my model was faulty and I should have it exchanged. Hats off to them for calling me back, I wasnt' expecting them too.

However, this is looking more and more likely to be an issue with the entire W4500 range as has blighted the 46" and 52" models reviewed by a respected internet review site, for which they were highly critical of. It also badly affects the 40" model which I own.

EDITED by mods for house rules violation.

Sony need to get on top of this. Its completely unacceptable that it seems to be pot luck whether you get a really good LCD or a complete mutt.

Are What Hi-Fi having any luck chasing this? I have a sinking suspicion it may be in the process of being swept under the carpet.

How can they be unaware if WHF have questioned them about it? Im beggining to wonder that i made a mistake by ordering the damn tv!

Don't seem to be letting their staff know about it. You'd hope they'd have some known issues / already looking into issues screen for their customer service group, but looks like they either they don't, they haven't put it on or the person didn't bother looking. Eitherway yet another negative against Sony. And they've issues profit warnings partly owing to appreciating Yen. I still reckon worth getting an ETA for an answer if finding the right tree to bark up (as someone previously put it) is proving difficult. I'd also consider cc'ing more senior people in Sony - two reasons. One to make them aware - its good for their organisation. Two they would probably make things happen. I feel a little bit sorry for people who got sets with clouding that haven't come accross this forum or issues elsewhere and bought the TV purely on the what hifi recommendation...

Well we're certainly not letting it lie - contacted Sony AGAIN today for a satisfying answer, and will continue to contact/escalate until we get one.

And it's typical that customer service staff don't get informed about this stuff, across many manufacturers - that's no excuse, but it is the reality.

Yet again, I will draw Sony's attention to the damage all this is doing to the reputation of a range we know can looking absolutely stunning.ÿ

Thanks Clare

keep the pressure on, still want to get the w4500 . Although if sony dont own up and fix the problem going to get plasma or new philips (if not too pricey)

Thanks Rewerb

Good points, think i am going to try and see if i can get a shop to set up the plasma and lcd hooked up to a x360 to see the problems for myself. hopefully comet, currys or pc world will help as they sometimes have demo's playing on the x360.

Just to keep you as up-to-date as we are.... I chased Sony again, and have had a reply thanking everyone for their patience, and promising an official statement "as soon as possible".

I'll post that statement on its arrival.

In the meantime, I ordered my Dad a KDL-40W4500 today: if there's any clouding, it's going back to the retailer!

Thanks Clare

After buying a 52w4500 with clouding and the replacement was the same i decided to try the 52w4000 instead and there is no clouding on this one

I wouldn't mind just getting a W4000, but I've got pretty sensitive eyes to juddering, and slow pans on the W4000 always made me cringe. That's why I'm hoping the dust settles on the W4500 instead.

Having said that, as far as pans go, I still maintain than any samsung (as low as Series 5!) looks better to me - even compared with the W4500 - believe it or now.

It's only Sammy's ultra-reflective surface that puts me off somewhat, what with my window-infested living room (in sunny Portugal, no less

I am going to pickup my 46W4500 on sat.

Been looking forward to getting it and and then i read this artical.

I'm hoping mines ok.

This is one long read, but an important read for me as I was on the verge of buying a 40W4500 (along with a Blu-ray player). I have now decided to hold station until some resolution is forthcoming from Sony, my hope is that this is just a batch issue, at which point I can go and buy the TV with more confidence. The money is burning a hole in my pocket somewhat !!

I do find it frustrating as a consumer that manufacturers are happy to accept the publics hard earned cash, but when things go wrong are not so willing to offer explanations or assistance without being pushed by publications like WHF or TV programmes. What happened to the old saying "customer is king"?

Finally, D.J. Krime - I do not think your plasma banner waving posts are helping, it feels a bit like gloating to me and not really constructive to the thread. I would also like to wish all those experiencing problems a speedier resolution so they can, going forward enjoy their TV's in the way they intended.

Decided to chip in. I just got my much anticipated 52W4500 last nite, and can confirm clouding as is evident in this picture.

I live in Finland. Have contaced the retailer (email) requesting for info on what to do. Apart from this clouding, the set is awesome. Goddamn I need toget rid of this problem somehow. Coulding is clearly visible in darker scenes.

I am getting more and more worried now.

Just called to say I'll pick my 46'' up on saturday.

I'll be gutted if I have this problem.

Is this something thats just hitting the W series?

Any news on if it effecting the 200Hz Z series as well?
