I've bought a Roksan Kandy CDP on ebay. 5 years old but looks like new.

Plan is I'm moving current system into a sperate room when I move house and use ebay to buy a good but used CD system.

The move's now happening on 1st October so I'm not going to buy anything else till then, so I'll just plug the CDP through my Marantz AV amp.

Forgot to prepare by getting interconnects and have ordered Chord Crimson from Peter Tyson.

Thing is the mains cable is just a £2 job from SMJ. I'm pretty sure that this will prove a very weak link so want to buy another.

I don't want to go to the extent of paying £100 as I'm not sure my ears will fully appreciate that.

So I'm thinking of something in the 20-30 range that will do a good job.

Any reccommendations ?

Hi,

Without going into silly money I can wholeheartedly recommend the 'Copperline Alpha' cable from Cleareraudio, a quick web search will find them. They are slightly above your cash range at £35 for a 1 metre cable.

All of my equipment is currently connected with these, just check you get a long enough length as they tend to be quite stiff and not particularly flexible.

Spend as much on the cable as you did on the Roksan.

It'll make sod all difference but will save you money as you'll never feel the need to "upgrade" again!

Hi richardw42

I will recommend you use the standard mains cable supplied with your Roksan cdp as it will be ideal.

Thanks

That's always been the problem with all the great audio equipment manufacturers past and present.

None of them have ever known how to do that last couple of metres to the mains plug. It has them baffled and completely flummoxed.

The greatest audio designers have been known to simply break down and run away, sobbing in frustration, when challenged with how to achieve a good quality connection from IEC socket to mains socket.

Luckily this generation of hifi listeners is blessed with a plethora of little companies who know the secret and can help us.

Well, here's an opportunity for the OP to see if there's a discernable difference between cables. I've gained by using a Silver High Breed Accord on my CDP. It may be better purely because it has a ferrite magnet on each end but I think it's well worth a try at £30.

I am expecting a Clearer Audio cable to arrive imminently. From eBay it is possible to get them within your price range. Obviously the jury is out on whether these things will make one jot of a difference, but I would expect that you would be able to sell the item back onto eBay for pretty much the same you purchased it for if not happy with it. Alternatively, buy from a source that will allow you to return the product if it does nothing for you. I think Clearer Audio, themselves, offer this.

On the other hand, there is the Silver High Breed version of the cables from Supra. All at about the price you specify. For some they make a difference, for others there seems no change. Personally, I have noted an improvement with the cables I have tried. Nothing drastic, but certainly a boost. I tend to think it depends on location and equipment setup.
