I'm looking to move home this year and once consequence is that I'll have less space for audio stuff. Therefore I'm looking at options for a combined dac & amp to replace my Classe CP800 & Classe CA2100 amp. Budget is around 5k.

Difficulty is the speakers. Because I've got custom speakers (Troels Graveson Illuminator Monitors) its difficult to learn from others. The drivers are all Scanspeak so maybe something that works well with Dynaudio etc who use these drivers?

Thanks, I'll give them a look.

Have been thinking though, maybe just a decent integrated amp with a chord qutest may fit the bill.

In which case, keep an eye out for the Arcam A49, which can be got with 1500 GDP off (List price 4k), due to being replaced.....or half price ex-dem.

Or the top of the range version with the nextgen streamer. £5195

It can be upgraded to the spec of any of the other DAC and or Steamer models at a later date if required.

I must admit, the Arcam A49 is interesting me... It was on the audition list before I bought the CA2100. Only problem is I'd be buying blind as I never actually got around to testing it.

It has been one of the few amps that got close(ish) to my Class A AMS35i. Being Class G, it has a lot of the Class A sound signature about it, without the drawbacks.

I think it could be a decent replacement for Classe.

I wrote about a system I heard it in, here: https://www.whathifi.com/forum/hi-fi/if-i-was-starting-again

It still exists. Depending on how far back you're going but its now part of B&W.

No, I read it’s not anymore. Just looked it up, and the good news is they have a new home already: Sound United took over the brand. Same stable as Marantz and Denon amongst others. Should keep them going...

EDIT: clicky

Wow, didnt know that, thanks. I've had my head down and out of the scene for the last 18 months or so to avoid the inevitable desire to start swapping boxes..

Thats good news though as its been ages since they've had anything new developed.
