For my first post, I just thought I'd share an experience I had today with both the above mentioned. I just ordered this TV from John Lewis. They Price Matched Sound and Vision's £593.99 including delivery. Needless to say I'm absolutely delighted. Strange thing was, I applied for a Price Match about 2 weeks ago when S & V had this tv on sale for £639. John Lewis were happy to Price Match for this amount but told me it didn't include delivery. I get the impression that the offer you get depends largely on the member of staff you deal with. Anyway, would just like to thank the Forum as without it, I dare say I'd have paid the list price, or at best, fought tooth and nail to wrestle a £10 discount at somewhere like Comet.

Rachael, Sound and Vision have a retail outlet in Bolton and the prices are the same as on their website. I got John Lewis in Brent Cross, London, to Price Match S & V in Bolton and deliver to West Sussex. It all seems a bit hit and miss to be honest though in that literally days before, I was quoted £639.99 for the tv alone (ie no delivery). Just call JL and tell them that S & V have a retail outlet.

Good luck.

Edited to say that I didn't visit the store in Bolton. I did it all on the phone.

Hi Rachel

I tried initially with JL on Oxford St without much luck and then rang Brent Cross branch who price matched sound and vision in 2 days - I'd say hang in there !

received a letter from john lewis cheadle today saying they won't price match at £593.99 because upon investigation they have found this not to be a 'shelf edge price'

we rang them and challenged this as we had spoken to sound and vision and confirmed that we could walk into the shop and buy the tv at said price, JL said tv wasn't on display in the shop at this price, we continued to challenge them as it could be bought from there and after a few mins, and a few different sales people fobbing us off, they tried saying the offer wasn't on anymore, but we perservered and told them the offer was on on monday 12th and they had messed us around cos we could have gone and got a tv a week ago now, they caved in for £599 with free delivery! getting delivered on monady 19th yipee!

thanks everyone for the advice and support

I have tried a price match. It states 7-10 working days response. I am now on day 15 and no one responds to my mails.

Pretty poor if you ask me.

Er, why not simply buy from Sound & Vision? Delivery is free + there's 0%-interest buy-now-pay-later.

Plus, any plasma will be delivered by S&V's in-house specialist AV courier, which guarantees that plasmas are kept upright & secure during transit. Also, when they deliver, the fellas will carry the TV upright, up any stairs etc, to the room in which it'll 'live', then they'll unpack, setup & take away packaging. Does John Lewis offer similar or is delivery by its regular service (with no guarantee of 'upright' transit)?

However, there's one downside to S&V: nationwide delivery for large TVs is only once a week, in one round-trip - guess they like a full load & they're being 'green'? - I assume this is generally on a Saturday (that's when they delivered my 42in Pana plasma, to London). So, be aware of that '7-day window' if you order from S&V.

1) Five year guarantee, unless htat's offered by S&V
2) Local service
3) John Lewis' excellent after-sales service - when I got my 23" Philips LCD, I wasn't enamoured with the screen bleed - they brought another round two days later, installed it, acknowledged that the bleed was worse on the new one, and took it away again. All for no charge.

True, a 'local shop' is useful. But JL don't offer 0% over 9 months. Maybe S&V's 'cotton wool' delivery setup means that the likes of screen bleed are rare (plasmas/LCDs seem to be sensitive to handling)? OK, S&V's 5-year guarantee costs extra - but hey, at the current rate of development, who keeps a TV for more than 18 months?!!! ;-)

i keep a tv for more than 18months!

the 5 year warranty was the thing for us, plus upon reading these forums for past month its become apparent there have been problems when dealng with online companies, and john lewis had exchanged several tvs for several different what hi fi customers without any hassle as soon as there has been a problem, other compaies have charges people courier charges.

Hi

I can confirm that I called John Lewis Kingston (London) on 18th May 08 and asked for price match of TH37PX80B for £599 to incl 5 yr warranty. Today 20th May 08 they called back saying they would match price of Sound and Vision retail store in Bolton and deliver free of charge next week.

When I first called them and mentioned JL Brent Cross had sold it at £599 they said they wouldn't match JL prices. However full credit to JL Kingston for calling me back so soon and I now look forward to my new plasma !

Thanks to the editor for her recommendation of this TV model and people here on this thread for the price match deal.

BTW AJ Electronics a shop in Edgware Rd London are selling the tv for £575 - but not in stock when I called.

I hate technology! I only had my 37PX80 for a couple of months and already it's gone down from the £679 I paid to £590!

Still, damn fine TV :)
