Itunes Problem

Well more of an annoyance really.

Download speed. Purchases seem to download relatively quickly. However, Itunes then spends an absolute age processing the file. I'm talking upwards of 5 minutes per track.

All music is located on a NAS drive and network speed is ok. Have upgraded to the latest version of Itunes as noticed that one of the improvements is related to download speed. But no improvement.

Network speed may be OK, but what's the drive speed like? If you take a 3meg file (say) and copy it to the NAS (outside of iTunes) how long does it take?

seconds - if even that. The NAS device has 5 x 1tb SATA Samsung drives in it. Not the fastest things in the world but perfectly respectable for a home setup.

The tracks are actually downloaded onto the NAS drive in the first place. They then sit in their own temp folder within the Itunes downloads folder whilst Itunes does whatever it does (some authorisation thing is going on there I believe) before moving the file to its final destination. I don't really buy much from Itunes these days but am using the opportunity to upgrade existing purchases to 256 as they become available.
