Is my PV1D subwoofer sick?

Watching Dr Seuss the Lorax Blu-ray this evening, and my PV1D started to make a regular loud "thump" every 5-7 seconds.

Switching off and back on did not make any difference.

I'm going to check out the cables and connections tomorrow, but if anyone has an idea of what the problem might be, it would be much appreciated?

(The PV1D is less than a year old)

Does it do it with any other soundtracks? Could it be the disc itself which has an issue?

The new Total Recall film had widely reported drop-outs and other issues, maybe The Lorax has too.

Tried it on its own, nothing else switched on. Still the slow thump.

Also, the side panel only has the arrow indicators on it - no response when I press them.

Looks like it's going back to B&W via SSAV.

I've read in a spanish forum the same problem (screen failure and regular "thumps") happened to a guy that received two different PV1D units that ended with the same problem you have experienced. The importer said the issue will be fixed with another (third!) unit using a new firmware. What firmware it's loaded in your PV1D?

No idea about the firmware, but I took the PV1D into SSAV middle of last week, and surprisingly I got the call yesterday to say that it was already back from B&W, and ready to collect. Well done B&W, but perhaps this is a known design fault?

Anyone from B&W wish to chip in here?

I had the same problem Twice!!! Very annoying...

Unluckily for me the first time it went in for repairs it took more than 3 weeks to come back with the report back being that they replaced the motherboard. Guess what! it happened again today while the kids were watching a movie, very irritating. I am requesting a new unit having sent a note to B&W themselves. Although very happy with the performace of the unit, when its working of course, it is very difficult to be happy when this is the second time in 6 months I am sending the unit back.

I have had a pair of 684's for 5 years now and love them. But I think the new revolutionary new technology B&W have introduced is frought with teething problems. Dont really like being a guinea pig... think B&W should get there QA department to work harder on new products before releasing them to the market.

Very disgruntled B&W owner right now
