after reading this forum it came to light my Panasonic BDT500 may be faulty - it would not play R/RW compact disc or copy DVD's. It was returned and sent away for repair. Got it back this weekend and it still cannot play these disc's. Since purchase it as not been connected to the internet - does this disc player require an update to play these disc's

do I need to return it again anyone have the same issue or could offer any advise on this?

Firmware upgrades do improve playability on disks in particular Bluray. There is no harm in updating your 500 and it will also fix any other bugs that may exist. If this doesnt fix your problem, then I would try them on another player first because it may be certain disks. Then, I would take it back..
