Tube amps have some hum and hiss. The brio is solid state but the circuit design of the Brio has some hum and hiss, It is also more prone to RFI. If you can not deal with hum and hiss in any measure you might not want to buy a Brio. The degree of hum/hiss/buzz will vary according to location of amp. It's a pretty well established fact that the Brio does this. And for the record the one I had did too (a brio 3). The noise of the brio could likely be eliminated by using more negative feedback in the circuit, but of course would be detrimental to the sound quality. Basically Rega probably decided The Brio sounds best with a bit of hum. If you still want to get Rega gear, the Mira and Elicit do not have the hum of the brio. If you want totally no noise coming from the amp, and that is your main objective, buy a Bryston.
