How Should I Connect My System Up?

Just a quickie , i have a dvd 5.1 surround system and a xbox , blu ray player and a freesat pvr .

The problem is on the surround sound the only in connections is 1 x phono , 1 x optical and scart for sound only

All pieces of equipment is connected to the TV by HDMI but i wasn't sure the best way to connect it all together,

Would i connect the blu ray by optical and the TV by phono ?

Or would just the TV by optical be just fine ? that way i have more money to buy a better optical lead instead of a phono and optical

Any suggestion/Advice would be appreciated

You need to connect the Bluray player to the system by optical in order to get Dolby Digital and DTS sound. Connect the TV with the phono as the only sound available from the TV will be stereo.
