...when purchasing Hifi.

Please show importance by giving your choices a percentage...and be honest. Feel free to elaberate on your reasoning.

- SQ

- Aesthetics

- Magazine Reviews

- Boredom (just fancy a change)

- Joy of the hunt

- Measurements

- Brand / Reputation

- Forum feedback

- Something else?

Sorry if this seems a little similar to my last thread, but this one is much less specific and covers the whole buying decision, by drilling down into what you consider important when making your choice.

...but how secondary.

eg. Would you buy something that had been hit with the ugly stick, that got hot enough to fry an egg, sucked 400W from the mains as soon as it's switched on and was from a brand with a poor reputation?

Not sure why you have omitted usability / functionality! If it's a real pain in the a**e to use then that would put me right off it.

Other than that it's SQ, Aesthetics and Price. The rest are immaterial.

When looking at a new house the acoustics are a factor that I'll consider. Very low down the list of prioraties admittedly but still a small consideration none the less.

I like your "Hmmmmmmm" - for boredom Matthewpiano - some of your threads/replies on your equipment have been most informative/entertaining on this site (Hmmmmm= 100% in this case).

Cno - If all the other categories were 100 % but sound quality was compromised (let's say 60% - could be a little more or maybe a little less) - would you be tempted to buy - I wouldn't - not in a million years.

If a someone can go to the trouble of manufacturing an excellent sounding amp - I would think the other qualities wouldn't be too bad either.

interesting thread tho - cheers tonky

Would you consider anything else on the amended list, or is everything else irrelevant for you?
Dealer advice 8 out of 10, brand and reputation 8 out of 10. I might change my strategy going forward buts that's what I used for my current system. Measurements are important for TV too, but all OLED TVs give perfect black levels.

Apart from poor reputation you could be describing my new power amplifier

That begs another interesting question...are measurements more crucial in making a decision on some components than on others?....and if so, which components?

I like your style.

My amp is not a million miles away, either.
