Hey people,

Just wondered how people listen to music through their home cinema. Stereo, pro logic 2 etc.

I know many people will say the only way is stereo but give prologic 2 music a go. Its pretty good. Very similar to Lexicon Logic 7 that I used have on my DC2 proccessor. I have all these speakers so i want my monies worth

. Im sure people will disagree with me but set up properly it works. I went in to a high end dealer recently i mentioned this, boy did they look down their nose at me!

Would be interesting to know.I have always used some form of multi channel for music and yes i have heard high end stereo.

ditto, it's the only way imo !!! Prologic and surround sound is for tv, films etc only as it has so much more info to get across to the audience, music is a different matter altogether...more intimate and personal...

In my case I never found the "pure direct " to work well for me. I had various receivers and I never liked the way it worked. I believe you really need to have a very good source that provides better sound than the procesors of the AV. The "pure direct" will sur-pass all digital pre-procesing including bass and treble, everything in the pre section of the amp except the volume. In my case I have an IPOD as source so the digital preprocessing of the amp adds a little bit of "body", tridimensional sense and "life" to the sound.

Yep! Using the analog connections for music, 2.0 pure direct for CDs or 5.1 pure direct for SACD/DVD-Audio.

I use two modes, depending on the listening scenario:

Pure Direct - Is very good I find for critical listening, it real brings out the clarity and detail of a recording - very good for acoustic stuff or strong vocal led tracks. But I do find I have to crank the volume up to quite a bit to match the same sound level as other modes - when you do the mid-range comes through a lot better and the whole things sounds superb.

Ext. Stereo / All Channel Stereo - That said, I really like the all channel stereo modes. There is something in the way the the sound envelopes you more (particularly through 7.1 speakers) that is quite nice. Where as in pure direct mode the soundstage is clearly in front of you, in all channel stereo mode it is like you're sat on stage with the entire band. You do lose a bit of detail and clarity though at the top end I find, but gain increased bass as the sub is brought into play.

As for the other modes, I don't really like them, they artificially split the sound and as a result most recordings see to lose a proportion of their cohesion and impact to me. Just my two pence worth!
