I have a set of Kef 50s speakers and am looking for a good budget amp and cd player £400 ish. Able to cope with stuff from led zepplin to metallica.Any help would be much apprieciated

The best thing to do would be to cart your speakers along to your friendly local dealer, tell him / her your budget, and see what they demo for you. Actually, you might want to check that they'll demo before you start lugging your speakers around.

Given your budget, the names Marantz, Nad and Cambridge Audio spring to mind.
