Exactly the same boat as me BBB...

Let us know how you get on with JL, I, for one will be very interested to hear what they offer...!

They've clearly carried out a factory reset on your TV, hence the loss of Pro 1 and 2

So if they couldn't see anything wrong (as they claim), why do a factory reset?

I'm annoyed, because the picture still has the same problems, but now has a mediocre picture too.

They've returned my tv, which of course still has the same issues.

To their credit, they've looked after the tv, no marks, no screen burn, but I am annoyed, as they've lost my settings in Professional 1 & 2.

Strapped, have you any idea which thread these settings were in?

It was the same two engineers that brought the tv back as took it away, and I spoke to them to ask why they couldn't see the pink hue and dse. They explained that for Panasonic to release a replacement panel, a clear photo has to be taken of the fault, and they were unable to take a photo that showed the fault clearly. I tried to take a photo, as the pink hue was very clear after they returned it earlier, but I was unable to see it clearly in the picture, so I can understand it from their point of view. BUT, the engineer also told me that he can see that the problem was only really visible during sport, and they never really saw any sport when they were checking, which is just moronic.

I'll wait until tomorrow, then ring JL. Just because it's not possible to take a clear photogragh of a fault, doesn't mean a fault doesn't exist. It seems to me that there's no chance of Panasonic releasing a panel, so I'll ask JL for either a replacement, or a refund.

exactly the same as mine. Even if the engineer tells panasonic they can see it they won't do anything without a picture of the fault, if you can't picture it then they won't do anything about it. Also same issue with engineers in workshop not replicating the fault with the conditions you tell them. I know what your going through. It's just confirming the fact that I would never ever buy another panasonic product

I think the only weapon I have left in my armoury is the ability to nag John Lewis until they get tired of me, and give me what I want.

I will make my first move towards this goal tomorrow. >)

From that I take it that Panasonic are ignoring you?

No, I'm dealing with JL, not Panasonic, it's just the fact that there seems little chance of getting a repair without photographic evidence of the faults.

As I said, I'll ring JL today and we'll see where the land lies.

EDIT: You weren't talking to me were you?

correct, i not heard anything from them for tree weeks now. Another email will be going to the MD soon. So disappointed with the quality of their customer service, I get better from a brick wall :wall:

BBB if you get no joy from JL, try emailing their MD directly.

His name is Andy Street and his email address is: andy_street@johnlewis.co.uk

Often the MD email address goes to a team in the MD's office who deal with stuff like this speedily (that said, when I emailed the MD of my energy supplier, I actually got a personal reply from the MD himself!). So long as you're not angry/aggressive and simply portray yourself as a loyal JL customer at your wits end, only writing to the MD out of sheer desperation etc etc, you should get the solution you want.

Thanks for the tip Nick, though I'm hoping that won't be necessary.

I once emailed the MD of Virgin Media out of desperation, and Hey Presto!, the problem was sorted within a day, so I know that it works.

Where did you buy your GT50 from rocketrazor?

i purchased it from a locl independant retailer. They have had my tv for three weeks already advising they see nothing wrong with it, because they didn't test it in the right conditions with the right material. Also they acknowledged the white lines and blamed image retention! I wasn't allowed to be present for the testing as I advised them I would seek remedy through the courts as I wasn't getting a response from them either.

when it was booked for the local repair agent they didn't provide panasonic with the correct information either.

its all a joke really

How old is it?

The contract is with the retailer, so Panasonic seem unlikely to be able to assist, especially given that they've done just about nothing so far...

First one purchased August 2012, replaced May 2013 after repair made it worse. Second one arrived May 2013 but no money exchanged hands so technically my tv is now 15 months old.

So, Samsung's TV cashback offer ended at midday today...

Bring on the 'January' sales, and a new Samsung consumer offer, which hopefully will bring a 55F8000 into my reach!

Xmas sales about to start, let's see what they have to offer. Just been walking around the shop seeing them get out TVs, I saw a Sony 4K 55 inch for £2500 but that was used.

BBB, for the best chance to capture the fault on a photograph, click it against a white or yellow background.

Capturing the vertical banding/DSE problem is easy. I got very clear photographs of the issue, even with my poor camera phone.

Download the AVS HD.709 patterns. Put up a 20 or 30 percent grey slide. Reduce the contrast steadily. Once contrast is below 40 percent the bands are visible on photographs.

I doubt Panasonic will change their "within specification" verdict, which as we know has nothing to do with the severity of a problem and everything to do with cost analysis, but it'll hopefully give you some leverage with John Lewis.

I'm lurking gel!

I've seen the deals at Total Digital on the F7000, F8000 and the VT65...

Just wondering if Samsung are going to start a new promotion on their TV's now that the old one has expired....

Currently watching Indiana Jones on BBC 1 HD, having played about with the ISF settings on the GT50, and apart from the odd bit of DSE the picture is amazing.... typical!

Thanks Strapped. Do I download them, then burn on to a disc?
