Hi All,

Getting dangerously close to pulling the trigger on a new amp. It is down to the last two. I know that the two mentioned are very different propositions, but I would love to know if anyone has A/B tested them, what were their thoughts, and which one they opted for.

In my case, I am only concerned with the respective sound produced by these amps. I have a solid external DAC and streaming solution (all FLAC), so the fact that the Hegel offers these is not important. I listen to a vast array of music, from classical to techno, but with a distinct leaning towards electronic, so bass control is high on my agenda.

Opinions gratefully recieved!

The only guy on here that has done that is steve750 and he chose the hegel on sound quality.

If its bass control your after its a no brainer

Rick from musicraft also deals atc amps and hegel so maybe he will be around to give his view on the 2 amps also

If you're after bass control, you could also consider the Primare I32, which is Primare's take on the more efficient Class D design. I tend to find Class D amplifiers cleaner and more transparent, with a better grip on speakers, particularly more demanding ones than their Class A/B counterparts.

Historically, I have used Arcam amps. Currently have the a19 and the irDAC. Got the scm19's recently and they need more power. I was thinking of going with a power amp, p35 or p38, but rather than mess around with a bolt on solution, I fancy going for something up the quality scale.

Hi jeetra

Thanks for your reply.

Fair enough however with an irDAC then i feel you should also look at Arcam's A49. As i write this we've got an an A49/irDAC/curved SCM40's playing and the combination sounds stunning

Fwiw, i'll recommend that you also consider Naim's SuperNait 2/Hi-Cap DR and Hegel's H360 which we and some of our clients find to also work well with ATC passive monitors

All the best
