HD READY V 1080 FULL HD-myth or fact?

Aside from allegedly sitting at least 4-6 feet away from a 42" screen being fed with Blue Ray or other HD material, can the human eye really appreciate the advantages that FULL HD 1080 apparently offers over HD Ready screens?

I did this test at my local sound and vision shop, two 42 inch pannys next to each other both connected to ps3. The staff didn't tell me which set was HD ready and which wasn't. I couldn't tell the difference and couldn't even attempt a guess. I only noticed which was HD ready when i brought the Viera menu up on screen, HD ready menu writing was crisp and clear, the non HD ready set menu was slightly "fuzzy".

i got the 50 inch panasonic. No complaints, great tv.
