Had enough of my Oppo 203 and have bought a Panasonic ub400!

I wasn’t entirely happy with the Oppo 203, Dolby Vision is a pile of crap and the picture was producing a lot of artificial processing making it look back. So I was in JL and saw a used Panasonic ub400 for £100 so I thought I would’ve a bit of that! The picture is a lot clearer than the Oppo and I am enjoying 4K Blu-rays a lot more again.

If it’s not artificial processing what is it? It’s basically making the TV look faulty it’s that bad and yet on the Panasonic it’s great!

Can you explain the picture?
I don’t really know how to explain it, I could do two videos of it and show you. It’s like fuzzy ness to the picture and really distracting.

Yep, I don’t think you can tell from the pictures unfortunately.

It's a well know problem on Av forums. Your blu ray is not the problem. All TV manufacturers with Dolby Vision need to provide new firmware update to rectify the problem when playing through hdmi.

It does it on HDR too on the Oppo though.

Perhaps these Dolby Vision discs are meant to be played on Dolby Vision and that’s the problem? What problems are being reported on AVForums about it? Thanks.

Just been reading on the Oppo 203 thread on AVForums and some call it artefacts, is that the word I am looking for?

Can you link that page on AV Forums?

Try configuring Dolby Vision to play as HDR10.

To configure Dolby Vision content to play as HDR10:

Set HDR to FORCED
Set Standby Mode to ENERGY EFFICIENT
Turn the player Off and back On again

--------------

To return things to normal:

Set HDR to AUTO, and power cycle the player again.

Yep, BB. I know how to switch between modes, I will check again though. Thanks. I will try and find that page too, another word used to describe it might be ghosting!

They are all saying Panasonic Blu ray players fix the problems too.

Am I the only one that thinks...

Dolby Vision and all the other proprietary super-dooper formats are destined to go the way of Betamax and the mini-disc? Not to mention 3D TV and curved screens?

Already seems obsolete tech wise. It is supposed to have HDR , but the handshake issues between my Roku ultra, marantz SR 6011 and the LG TV have kept me off after a few tries.

And I haven't even given Dolby vision a thought. Will have to wait till my next TV probably.
