Just watched the re-run on "Fiver" and thought it was totally positive with the usual caveat: the discs are far too expensive and hardly any titles to speak of.

Drop the prices and create the demand, otherwise it will surely fail.

markjaspi:They never seem to actually cover a subject with enough depth for my likeing and I am sure an average joe on this forum, never mind a member of the WHF team, has more insight.

I've always just treated The Gadget Show for what it is and that is simply an entertainment show about gadgets, nothing more, nothing less. If it was all techy, I doubt anyone would watch it other than us AV die hards.

Sorry but I don't agree that WHF covers any subject or review in any great depth either but that's part of the appeal of the mag. It was ages before I saw anything from WHF on the subject of bluray that actually told us anything new and certainly nothing that hadn't be discussed in depth on the various online forums. Sometimes, I think that WHF is a little late in joining the party on certain topics.

Then the for, if you have a home cinema it is definetely a good thing with the sound and picture.

i cant get channel 5, so never seen the show. but following this point; are there not enough home cinema owners to provide a steady demand for blue-ray provided enough titles are released on the format? so, it is not a relacement for dvd's but a higher quality version aimed at a niche market. By conventional economic theory it could be seen as a complimentary product to home cinema systems, which are expensive, therefore it is assumed that buyers of blue-ray discs are wealthyer than dvd buyers and are prepared to pay more for the product.

maybe blu-ray isnt intended to become the next standard mass market media, but the businesses involved are happy selling them to a niche market at a far higher profit per disc.

does anyone happen to know how blue-ray sales are doing in othe parts of the world? such as the USA or australia? as the average house there is much larger than here in the uk are there a higher amount of home-cinema owners and therefore blu-ray sales?

Hi,

Woohoo!! Now I'm a home cinema snob...lol

I think it is aimed at being the replacement to DVD - not to compliment.

Although I do think some of the 'features' on offer are surplus to requirements and the perception of what the public want has been over-estimated.

Some say they don't want fancy menus - they'd prefer quicker loading times.

Some say they don't want BD Live - they want faster loading times.

Some say they don't want the black bars on their TVs - and faster loading times.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

OK, I would like to point out some things about the gadget show:

1. I watch it all the time, and one thing I noticed was that the old gadget show, used to focus on pure gadgets and how good a product was, which was amazing.

2. Now they run around like idiots trying to save money on tech if you had 10,000, well I for one would not be buying a second hand PC to save 50.00 just to win a pointless competition on TV just to try and amuse the lame dumb people who have 10,000 and they want to buy second hand stuff?

The Gadget show has changed so much, and not for the good, and I fast forward all the useless stuff they do, like building a monster lawnmower out of pc's.

I want to see gadget tests and only tests.

I want to see tests on stuff I want to buy and the normal person is going to buy.

Who the hell is going to spend 90,000 on a electric car?

Also I know that Blu-rays are better quality and I know they are twice the price, I know they have better sound. So what was the point of that test. apart from testing some pimple faced uni students to see if their heart rate went up when they watched blu-ray porn.

I have now taken it off my planner, as I have not seen any real tests of stuff any normal person would buy.

MY RANT .... LOL

It's not the loading times that bug me so much as the un-loading times.

Why does it take ages for the player to spit out a disc? I'm not asking it to read it, I just want to remove it.

And here's to everything being shot in Imax.

I really enjoy watching the Gadget show. Ok - they're not informing us of anything new that alot of us here don't already know, or they're not doing any in-depth analytical testing of components, but it's a nice medium for peeps that have little or no knowledge about technology to be introduced to it.

It's also entertaining - they have a laugh. They introduce the show in a fun, down to earth manner with none of the snobbery or condescending personas that are so frequently apparent in the AV world, whether it be from independent retailers or certain forum members/moderators.

I've got the show Sky+'d so I haven't had a chance to watch the BD feature yet, but probably will tonight. I'm also looking forward to my first ever 'Gadget Show Live' in a few weeks time. Should be a laff.

JohnDuncan:gel:the what hi fi sound and vision hour on say a tuesday night. I think Thursdays would be better.

Ah a wild at heart fan, I knew you would like that JD.

But thursday's sounds good to me, as long as it does not clash with premier league darts.

They'd better be tears shed for those who spend their time watching fat men throw sharp metal objects at a board.

I'd rather watch Paul Daniels throw um at his beautiful wife...

it shouldn't have anything to do with your girfriend as to how much YOU spend on anything though, why should it ..

anyway sometimes there is a part of the gadjet show which is funny to watch but for the most psrt i don't ... i remember ages ago they did silly tests between the monolith mp3 player and ipod and got around to running a car wheel over the monolith as they had heard about how robust it was ... they then took the ipod and put it in a container before running it over ... hardly an equal test lol

i have wached the gadget show for ages, and it has changed.there is not enough on everyday gadgets.thay have got silly ie £15,000 snow bikes. this is fine on shows like top gear showing of super cars as you might only change your car every couple of years and are mostly restricted by price so its not so relaavent

.but when it comes to gadgets i might buy one every month or so.

on the blu ray review it was posative but it was silly when thay said, there expensive and showed an £1800 player and at no point said ,oh you can get them for around £100.imagine if your not clued up on these things you would see that and probably not even look into buying one.

i will continue to watch, but these days i tend to have it on in the back ground while im doing other things just stoping to wach the odd bit.
