Films that may have escaped you

I get to watch quite a lot of films. Every so often ill see one that impresses me that I've never even heard of before

Latest was called '11:14' (released 2003). Completely random film consisting of 5 intertwining stories. I love films like this

Any films anyone cares to share that have equallly impressed them we may not have even heard of?

I saw that at the cinema. Patrick Swayze was in it I think. It's the one which sort of like Pulp Fiction, Vantage Point and Go in the way the story unfolds.

Ive seen Lords Of Dogtown already (Good film), ill certainly try to check those others out in time

Bubba sounds like classic Campbell to me

Way better than it had any right to be as a general release film.

For anyone into skating it is bliss. The extras in the DVD are outstanding, showing the originals doing the stunts in the movie and the fact that the actors learned how to skate just for the film in a matter of months Must watch it again soon.

Heath Ledger - RIP.

It's about the 1999 Columbine high school shootings. Not a nice subject, but it's filmed from different peoples points of view, which all cross at some point.

Is 11;14 the one where Rachael Leigh Cook has some good times in the cemetery, til the headstone gets involved? If so, yep, good flick.

My vote, though, would be for 'The Diving Bell and The Butterfly'. French, but don't hold that against it. Beautiful, heart-wrenching film.

This one has Colin Farrel in it, but don't hold that against it: 'In Bruges' is brilliant.

'Defendor' with Woody Harrelson is great. It would be easy to call it a Kick-Ass rip off, but it's so much more than that. it's intelligent and touching.

Ive seen In Bruges, it was ok, worth a watch. Defendor ive not got round to watching yet. I'll check out 'The Diving Bell And The Butterfly' when I can (Ive no problem with foreign films)

+1 for diving bell and butterfly. Have your tried Jean de Florette and Manon des Source?

I watched Before the Devil Knows You're Dead and The Counterfeiters, both highly enjoyable.

One of my faves os Blackball, an excellent offbeat brit comedy, features Johnny Vegas, Vince Vaughan and Paul Kaye.

I agree In Bruges is good but no better than that, though Farrell is a convincing lunatic, and I thought the scene where he is about to shoot himself in the park was genius.

Nice to see someone else mention the Counterfeiters. One of the best films Ive seen and noone I know has seen it.

Seven Samurai - far superior to The Magnificent Seven.

Oh, and Das Boot. Old enough that it may have escaped some of the younger viewers. Must try and remember any other films I have...

Which is the best cut of Das Boot? There seems to have been so many over the years.

'Shoot 'Em Up' is also worth a watch in a 'leave your brain in neutral kind of way'. Some very cheesey one liners. "I'm lactose intolerant."

'Inside I'm Dancing' is one of the wife's fave film. it's about the exploits of 2 handicaped lads. Very funny without being in bad taste.

NSYGrinner: Which is the best cut of Das Boot? There seems to have been so many over the years.

I am referring to the original German TV series from the '80s. Available on DVD as a continious film. Option of dubbed or subtitles. I prefer subtitles for the nuancies of tone in the dialogue.

Edit:- I read "cut" as "version". Oops. Always go for the director's cut. It was their vision, not the accountants version.

Never heard of Birdy (Suprising considering what the directors done), but it certainly sounds interesting

Betty Blue - the cover always put me off. But as 2 people have recommended it then im now intrigued
