Love Liza. Excellent film that not many have seen.

Cheers Gerrard

I 'may' check that out in time, but im not a big fan of the lead. Theres something about him that I just never seem to be able to gel with

Well, that might be a problem - I'm a massive fan of his. If I throw in that the film is about suicide, gasoline inhaling addiction and remote control boats and planes, would that throw you off even further?! No seriously, it's an excellent little film.

As for Betty Blue, well you really need to see it. It's stunning.

Das Experiment

Festen

Amadeus

A Bittersweet Life

Dead or Alive (Miike Takashi one)

I watched the new yank version of 'The Experiment' last week. It was ok. I'll certainly check that one out. Psychology experiments do fascinate me. I recall watching a program years ago where they chose around 12 people. One was this woman who seemed lovely and youd have thought has never hurt anything in her life. Within 2 days she was starving people and even laughing as she did it!

When people are put in new situations its unbelievably scary how much they can change when there are no rules.

I recall another where all were in on it except this one guy who was the experiment. They were all sat in an exam. 10 mins in and theres what sounds like an explosion down the hall, then slowly the sound of fire enveloping them and smoke coming through the door. Now id have been out of there and probably dragging stupid people with me. But this guy looked around and because everyone else just got on with the test then so did he!!

Sorry, going off topic here

Feston sounds intriguing. I saw Amadeus years ago and at the time it bored me (I was young though so maybe its worth another go)

I'll certainly check out the last 2 if I can. Mike Takashis 'Itchi The Killer' was a bit grim, Audition was incredible though. I'll never forget listening to 'those' needles through my av system!

Foreign films?

Seven Samurai - far superior to The Magnificent Seven.

Oh, and Das Boot. Old enough that it may have escaped some of the younger viewers. Must try and remember any other films I have...

Magnolia? Not foreign, just remembered.

Seen all them. Good films Davie (Dont have to be foreign though, I just said I dont mind if they are foreign)

Which is the best cut of Das Boot? There seems to have been so many over the years.

'Shoot 'Em Up' is also worth a watch in a 'leave your brain in neutral kind of way'. Some very cheesey one liners. "I'm lactose intolerant."

'Inside I'm Dancing' is one of the wife's fave film. it's about the exploits of 2 handicaped lads. Very funny without being in bad taste.

Shoot em ups a proper blokes film

Never heard of the comedy before. I'll look out for it

The best random film I have ever seen is 3-iron (empty houses).

My dad borrowed it from our local library and then I watched it, and I thought to myself "What a great movie". It's really alternative and there is almost no talk in it

Cast: Guy Pearce, Ray Winstone, Emily Watson, Danny Huston, John Hurt, David Wenham

Director: John Hillcoat (The Road)

Screenplay + music: Nick Cave

Multi-award-winning Oz 'western', set in the outback during the late-1800s. Emotional, thoughtful and gripping with an unhurried pace that's punctuated with bursts of brutal yet plausible violence.

Excellent performances all-round; perfect period detail (costumes and sets); very effective surround sound; and incredible photography - atmospheric lighting and breathtaking shots of the outback, especially night-time - which makes this a Blu-ray must-have IMHO.

And the BD is currently only £5.99 at Amazon

Man Bites Dog: Really good dark comedy about a serial killer from Belgium

City of God: Brazilian gangster/coming of age film. Was pretty popular so I assume most will have seen it. If not get it on the love film list immediately. Only downside is the 5.1 mix is terrible, better listening to it in Stereo as far as I'm concerned.

Most Japanese horrors and anything Korean with a disheveled cop in it tends to be worth watching.

French

Prison movie, A Prophet is pretty good.

Taxi is a great feel good movie if you haven't seen the original, watch it.

Irreversible is harrowing but the acting in it is superb.

La Haine, unmissable.

I second or third or whatever, Kung Fu Hustle. Brilliant film.

Shot 'Em Up is wonderful! A film that among its themes includes violent contempt for Birkenstocks and men with ponytails - what's not to like?!

Very surprised the writer/director has done now't since

'Timecrimes' is worth a watch. I think it's Spanish, could be French, been a while since I've seen it.

Concur with the original French 'Taxi!', great film. Taxi 2, and to a lesser extent, Taxi 3, aren't bad either, but not a patch on the first.. Apparently, there's a 4th, but I've not seen it and reports aren't favourable.

I caught a horror a few months ago 'KM31', which I think is Spanish too. Another that's worth at least one viewing.

Agree too with Battle Royale (I think all schools should do this

Timecrimes is Spanish, caught it on Film 4 (I think) a couple of months ago - or it might have been SyFy/Horror - and thought it was an exquisite re-working on the classic "perils of time travel" theme. Highly recommend it for an evening's viewing.
