Hi BS that is a good idea. I have not tried to record the system for movies but in a way I dont see why it would be any different to recording music so maybe I will give it a try and see how it comes out.

It would be great to do setup videos for all the different av receivers I would need them all (not same time) to do it. I dont know them all well enough to make it without them.

I am going to do a setup video for the arcam 850 with Dirac as part of the review of it. Its actually very easy but that might be because I already half know what I am doing

I havent worked out how to play music with speakers and subs but I havent had enough time messing with it. Day job has been killing me. Stresssful job

I would say give and take most AVs have a basic standard setup across the board just a different interface it's when you start going into the advanced settings things start getting tricky and I bet most people do not understand so leave them settings alone but if your spending big money on a AV you need to get the very best out of it to make the most out of your purchase .

I was meaning to ask this question but it slipped my mind. I've watched part two of Kef Reference review at the gym.

In regards to THD specs. Did you compare them against your REW measurements? If so would you be willing to post a screen shot or share results. That peaked my interest and would like to use it as a benchmark.

In room will never be as good as the specs due to room interaction so it's understandable they'd be higher than quoted. Would love to know. Thanks

Great videos !

I much prefered the B&W's of the two .

My only other observation is that both seemed very lacking in bass weight and detail, but it might have been the recording, all the detail seemed to be in the mid and top only.

How was the bass weight, detail and texture listening to them live ?

A bit top end heavy from both speakers. B&w's had far more resolution but less of an open sound.

Electro mate I am doing a write up for it. Got half way and then side tracked but will finish it.

There were a few factors in the demo such as the speakers being in different positions and how that would affect things like freq response and the speakers affecting each other.

However overall for me the Marten was a significant amount better. It sounded tight and focused completely free of the speakers and every element to the sound had space around it. I have only heard a few speakers do that properly.

When the 800s came on it was the opposite they filled the space between the speakers with sound but it sounded unbalanced and all over the place by comparison.

For me the 800s sounded like they needed work setting up better, dirac for sure.
The Martens sounded like they just needed listening to and enjoying. They balanced the sound just right with proper focus to it.
That sound made me want them and all the kit.
The 800s made me doubt the kit.
Both had that little something special that separates this level from the masses.

Would be nice to see your home cinema going with them 2 SVS subwoofers in action whether your camera can handle the bass in a action scene ?

I haven't got a projector but good video it still applies to TVs as well but most of us do not have the luxury of a man cave sorry bat cave anyway I thought of a good video you could do is how to probably setup a AV amplifier with all the different settings just in case someone didn't understand the different settings when they first buy a AV amplifier as they have so meany different settings i my self might of missed something on mine

or how to setup a subwoofer properly for music or films just an idea

BS Mate I tried to do this for you - I recorded Man from Uncle because it has crazy good bass quality and musical bass - the video came out great, I was really happy but You Tube blocked it due to copyright which is a shame.Sounding and looking immense even from a TY video.

I dont think I can even privately let you watch it

YouTube have clampdown on a lot of the film stuff I've noticed because of the copyright protection which is silly as they used to show a lot of old films that were discontinued I noticed it with my little one going on kids YouTube when she looks up stuff from the film frozen I thought it was just Walt Disney doing it but it's on everything now .

i wonder if they will start doing it to music and music videos as well as that's copyright as well

anyway is the video up on the site ? As I can still hear the bass lol on that film just to see what 2 SVS subs sound like running together

Next time I have the recording equipment setup I will try a different movie something a bit more obscure and older maybe I dont know. Once I know what they will allow I am set but its a lot of work getting it to that stage and then just getting blocked but that's all part of the challenges of this project.

Either way man from uncle is a great film with a great sound track if anyone hasnt seen it yet. Richie back at his best

yes ive seen that film I just brought a couple of blu-rays myself today superman vs batsman , terminator genesis for £4.75 brand new on amazon which I thought was a bargain as blu-rays look nearly as good as 4k films so I do not mind keeping on buying blu-rays as the prices have dropped on them because of 4k .

The 2015 Uncle film has an Atmos soundtrack. Like most modern mainstream films.

10 Cloverfield Lane has a moment 10 minutes into it that's a good AV system test. If the sound gets you jumping out of your chair that's a good sign that it's OK on the transients front.

As for the film itself, it's a strange mixture of genres that make it watchable but not a classic.

The 2 films that my family and I have most enjoyed watching this year have been Captain Fantastic and The Founder, neither of which have spectacular soundtracks.

It'll be interesting to see what you think of Atmos, compared to your already well sorted surround system, ellisdj.

I think it's very much open to debate as to whether it's worth spending money upgrading an AV system to Atmos. Probably one of those things where some would think it's well worth it, whilst others won't.

Thats what the whole video series is going to be about actually because up until now I havent had a demo thats made me want to do it.

However as the hobby has changed for me so much I feel its likely an area of interest for a lot of people.

Its a lot of work, cost and change for people so yes I am very much unsure of how much benefit it will bring. I already get a great sense of height in the system but you dont know what your missing until you try it.

Its all funds permitting for me atm - so much I want to do - all expensive
