I am interested in purchasing a dvd player, initially I thought I would purchase a denon dvd-1940 combined with a onkyo 705 receiver; however I am tempted by the marantz dv6001. My question relates to the relevance of a dvd players own sonic ability, the denon sound tested is suggested to be inferior to marantz, however how relevant is this if your sound is being processed by an amplifier. I apologise if this is a silly question, I don't have the greatest understanding in this area.

This depends on how you connect the two together. If you use the twin phono outputs on the dvd player the dvd players will be processing the sound, and if you use an optical or co ax lead then the amp will be doing the processing! usually its best left to the dvd player to do this.
