I know its a different reciever, but my Sony 5300ES can only upscale analog inputs according to the manual.

Sorry Canada, I've been away over the weekend, otherwise I'd have replied by now. I can view the site via my iPad, but not reply.

The Pioneer's don't get involved in any scaling. They'll upconvert, but not upscale. Upscaling isn't need for a HD source, and more and more SD source components nowadays have their own upscaling. Even if they don't, all screens, whether it's a TV or a projector, will upscale should they receive a signal less than 1080p.

Personally, I think the amplifier is doing enough without having to upscale as well - it's something I've always left to my PJ.

I think its time for a new TV, but might have to wait a while due to the recent upgrades.

On some pics on SD you can see a ghost shadow when someone moves really quick, its a very poor pic for a new LCD TV.

Just bought on the spur of the moment as it was 350.00 for a 42" 1080p

Ah well you live you learn Thanks guys

David,When you say all screens will uscale to 1080P if they receive a signal less than that, does that apply to all 1080P screens regardless of age? It's just that I have a 2 year old Panny Full HD plasma and there is nothing in any of the menus which allows me to adjust the upscaling or resolution.

If your screen didn't upscale to it's own resolution, you'd be watching an SD broadcast as a little window in the middle of your screen (imagine the pixel count), surrounded by huge black borders all round. So yes, it doesn't matter how old your screen is, it will upscale to it's own resolution.
