Hey

I have a pioneer SC-LX72 and cant see a difference in picture quality, is there a button you push to upscale or does it do it automatically.

I bought a new TV and wish I hadnt TBH, I went from a 720p panny plasma to a 1080p LG Lcd, which is very poor for SD content.

Looks like I will be upgrading more soon. [:O]

Thanks.

See page 87 of your manual, it show you how to set up what sort of video conversion you want.

Be aware, that certain signals coming in on component cannot be up-converted.

Here I am again telling you how to use your stuff and I haven't even got the amp! Just having to read the manual as compensation for lack of physical hardware...

In my experience of tvs, it takes a couple of weeks before the upscaler really starts to work its magic. If youve literally just got it, I wouldnt worry too soon.

LOL

I'm working on Mrs. S, as I've posted already. But I fear the sc-lx82 (or DSP-Z7) may remain a pipe dream.

At least I've got my RXFX rears (well they're on their way at least)

If it's your Sky output that you're not seeing any difference with, have you got your Sky set to output 1080i or Auto. If the former, it will always do the upscaling. Set it to "Auto" and then SD material will go out in "original" format - 480p or 576p - and your Pioneer will be able to upscale it.

Hey I am sure a 1700 amp can upscale better than the sky box.

I My BD and PS3 are great, its just the pic on TV, so I need to set the SKY box to Auto? as its on 1080i right now.

Thanks

Yes, if you want your amp to do the upscaling.

Im sure it does. Unfortunately the skybox will deinterlace the signal first, meaning it might still not look as good as sky upscaling

There is another thread on the forums where a user complains that when his Kuro TV upscales the output from his Sky Box that it doesn't look good. Only way he found to fix it was to let the Sky box do the upscaling!

My TV is just a basic LG 42LD450 which cost 360.00 delivered, so any upscaling it can do, I am sure its not top notch.

Will set the box to auto and see what its like if the amp does it.

Nice 1 guys

That's not so good.

What Sky channel are you on / and have you switched off the amp and switched it back on again and selected a different input and then swapped back to Sky...

EDIT: BTW - have you got Kuro link turned on? If so, might be worth disabling it...

Got the kuro link turned off, and tried different channels and turning off the sky box and amp.

Spoke with frank harvey and he advised it might be due to the HDMI, he said it might only work with s-video, he said that the sky box or tv would probably do a better job anyway.

Sorry to hear that.

One last thought, have you re-assigned the HDMI input (2?) to TV/Sat? If not, try this, because I remember seeing something somewhere (sorry to be so vague) about the upscaling option only being available for named inputs, not the HDMI1/2/3/4...

Failing that, is it time for another call to your friends on the Pioneer helpline?

I think whatever upscales your picture, the tv is not at the level of the rest of your set up and that's the problem.

I might call pioneer, as it took days to figure out how to put dolby through optical on the sky.

1 call to pioneer and they said TURN OFF THE KURO LINK... LOL then job done.

I have 5 inputs and one is labled BD the others 1,2,3 and in assign.

Just want to see if I get a better pic if the amp does it, rather than the Tv or sky box.

No from the manual you need to press the video button, but for some reason its not working.

Will give pioneer a call tomorrow and see what they say. it might be because its all HDMI and no need to upscale as its the best its going to get, but what if you have a 720p TV, surley you should have the option of upgradin the signal then.

Maybe what hi-fi can shed some light, surley someone has got the 72 or 82 amp that knows whats what.
