Even listening on Spotify, it's clear the original master (both available) is superior sounding. I want to get the new master for the additional live material though. Tough decision. I bought this upon release on LP.

And before I get any lip - no the new master doesn't sound better on vinyl.

If you have the equipment to play them, get the SACD version that uses the original master.

Listening to them on Spotify I am amazed he can hear any difference.
MOFI sacd is the way to go.....

Listen to The Man's Too Strong on the 1996 master, and the 40th master on Spotify, pay attention to the chorus where the percussive synth kicks in and the subsequent dobro that Mark plays - the 1996 version just sounds much more natural and musical. That's the best way I can put it. The synth on the 40th sounds like a stick hitting a wall, the 1996 version actually sounds like something electronic. And the dobro sounds well, like a dobro.

Try it for yourself, it's only a few minutes of your time. So yes I'm amazed too I can hear the difference - right here on Spotify.

Actually it's been a new experience for me. I bought the LP in 1985, and had no idea the CD had much longer versions of almost all the songs on Side 1. I never heard the CD before!!

I've just compared the two tracks on Tidal. The remaster has more definition, the acoustic guitars sound more lively & there's a more space & separation in the mix with the heavy struck parts of the chorus. Synth & dobro sound fine on both mixes.

On my stereo, the remaster is noticeably nicer to listen to when plating one after the other. I probably wouldn't ever notice unless comparing them side-by-side.

I first bought it on vinyl, before I switched to CD in the late 80s. I don’t remember the differences and, haven’t listened to it for probably 25 to 30 years. Maybe I’ll listen to it again soon.
