The 3313 has arrived and I must say when the courier delivered it, the box was really heavy compared to the LX71, so must have some heavy conponents in theret, or it has a house brick inside :)

There is a problem though; when I unpacked the player and placed on the kitchen work top, the player was unheaven on its feet and wobbled from corner to corner. I then tried in my av rack and the same problem. I have tried adjusting the round feet underneath and it just undid them and there was no adjustment.

I called Peter Tyson and they said it may be the chassis that my be warped, so they are sending a replacement out today to arrive for tomorrow. So first impressions are not good!

however, I've spun a couple of disks BLuray Spider-Man and battlestar Galictica, and the picture is identical to my LX71 with all the picture settings switched off and through my now calibrated VT. The picture is outstanding but what I have noticed is that there is no judder in the faster scenes, which my 71 sometimes struggled with.

Ive also tried the player with all the picture modes switched on and via my VT non calibrated setting (normal mode) and there is a big difference in quality of the picture, albeit an un real look on the picture.

when I receive my replacement tomorrow, I will be happy because I will now have a box that plays all and is also a lot faster at loading disks and solid build quality(apart from the wobble) ...

cheers

Nice one!

Yeah it weighs 6.9kg compared to 5.5kg on the Pioneer, so there is a little difference. What do you mean when you say there is a unreal look to the picture with picture modes put on? Cheers

Hi Series boy

Sorry to hear your player is abit unsteady on it's feet, I certainly wouldn't hold that against it, could have just got crushed in storage or in transit :-/

I know I've ranted this before to Gel but have you downloaded the firmware on the Denon? As it apparently improves the PQ even further, just thought I'd mention it.

Pleased your happy with it as it's a cracking player! The best I've used and I've used a few over the years, no matter what I watch on it my jaw is on the floor :)

So I take it you'll be keeping it?

Cheers

Simple answer is that I like matching kit with my denon 2113 amp and I like the denon brand too. The remote app with the denon amp works well with the player, although not that other apps don't, I just like this app. I also don't watch standard DVD's anymore, only Bluray so the difference between players in my opinion is not a lot - Here we go..!

Gel, if you don't have a calibrated TV then it's hard to explain. Until a couple of weeks ago before I had mine calibrated, then I wouldn't have noticed probably. The skin tones are more noticeable and real in terms of pigmentation and colour compared to the non calibrated set. You need to see it to understand where I'm coming from. If you get your VT calibrated and you don't care about 3D or quicker loading times, then keep the 71!

My lx71 has given up the ghost and my panasonic 500 is pants! Which 1 would you choose, denon or marantz?
Out of curiosity Series boy, If you say you don't notice differences in quality between player's etc (which is fair enough) and you say you got the Denon because you want it to match your Denon amp, can I ask, Why did you get the Pioneer LX71 & a panasonic player? And not a Denon to match your amp in the first place?

Just don't get why you ask what others would choose? Because you've clearly said you can't see differences between players :-/ Why not have just gone for the Denon anyway?

I suppose I just wanted to make sure before I bought the denon I was making the right choice. Just to point out, I had the panasonic before I had the tv calibrated and the 71 had a better picture than the panny on a non calibrated picture.

When I bought the 71 just over 6 years ago, I also purchased a pioneer lx70 av receiver ( matching kit) but the receiver gave up the ghost last year and is when I purchased the denon 2113 receiver.

The marantz was another choice but I swayed over to the denon because it matched my 2113 and it was £50 cheaper :)

So what do you think to this; I'm on my second 3313 from Peter Tyson this week! I've had my first player replaced due to it not sitting level in my rack or on any flat surface. They've sent me a brand new replacement and that's the same, the guy at Peter Tyson said this is very unusual but confirms there is an issue because he's tested the first player I sent back and that is not level.

Peter Tyson have said it is a funny batch and can't guarantee if they send me another player that there won't be the same issue. They are not allowed to open the boxes!!!!

The fix is to un screw one of the round feet and put a 1 mm washer between the bottom of the player and 1 of the feet. This isn't right is it for a £450 player or any player at any cost, it should be level....

My thoughts are when I want to upgrade my kit in 3 to 4 years, then it's going to lose some value when I come to sell it, but more importantly what if there are other underlying problems with the batch when they were manufactured...

What does everybody else think?

I think you should get your money back and buy from Amazon:

My Denon was excellent but David@FrankHarvey did put a warning on the Denon and recommended Marantz instead.

Think I'll go for the 5007, it's cheaper and I don't need the twin Hdmi's..

big boss- let's hope they have manufactured the chassis straight on the Marantz. I don't think all the denon 3313 players are like this, it's probably just a batch of them. However, I don't have time to sit at home waiting for the courier with the risk of another being faulty!

really disappointed though because the denon is a stunning player in terms of build quality!

Picked Denon UD3313 over Marantz because of a clean / prettier faceplate / less buttons and a lower price - paid £472.00 before Christmas. Using mine 70 / 30 for music CD and BD. Dynamic and clean CD sound, brilliant BD / upscaled DVD pics. No match on the market for the price offered.

Big Boss misses audio RCA out on Denons, I've got mine connected to Yamaha 1010 via Chord Chamelleon 3 and I do like it.

I stream thru Yamaha but Denon streams absolutely fine. Just need TV screen on to browse your local net. Enjoy!

Right fixed it. I've swapped the the feet from the front right corner to the rear right corner. It's now level.

So, what is the problem; have denon connected the feet incorrectly and you have 2 feet that are 1 mm lower than the other 2, or is there a manufacturing fault in the feet...?

what I can confirm though, is the chassis is not bent... I'm keeping it!

Hmmmm very strange for Denon to have such an issue!

I do strongly believe it's a faulty batch albiet the feet most likely been put on wrong :-/

I would have done the same thing and tried switching the feet around, at least its sorted the problem. If that hadn't have worked I would have got the player from another supplier, I wouldn't have given up on such a great player.

I had issues with my pioneer amp, I ended up going through 3 of em until I got one to work, as they had freezing issues, wouldn't switch off, audio dropping out, total nightmare, with a bluray player you just more or less plug in and play, but with an amp? Well, you know what you have to plug in, speaker cables etc it tested my patience that's for sure.

So moral is all brands can have there flaws, I nearly gave up wirh the pioneer but so glad I didn't :)

Anyway glad you have it sorted and are you still enjoying it?

I said long ago the 71 skips frames is how i described it compared to better players.

I have found this with every player before owning the 7007.

They were all pioneer players though
