Thanks for that Dave

Now I know not to try to build my own 5m power cable, whose would you recommend to power the Pioneer 5090.

well, the clearer audio's copper line alpha has been getting good review's and they offer money back guarantee, so if you dont get a noticable improvement you can send it back. although i've never tried it. but i'm after the same panel as you and after seeing clare's thread yesterday about the deal sevenoaks s&v for the pio i'm off there in a bit to get one and will probably get a copper line alpha myself to try

daveh75:i've built my own usingÿ wattgate connectors,ÿmk silver plated plugs, and braided cableÿlike this. but tbh, its a lot of hassle and not that cheap really so i'd be tempted to spend the money on decent ready made cables

If your going to make up some cables thenÿI'd steer well clear of cable with steel screening. ÿA copper screen is designed for rejecting RFI, steel is designed for protection (but is cheaper, hence you see it on ebay) Steel braid looks the part, but tinned copper cable is what your looking for.

Consider getting the 5090 from TLC Broadcast .I'm just ordering mine now....£1645.00 w/out speakers or £1795 with

Both with 5yr warranty.

Agree with earlier post, DIY isn't always cheaper. Russ Andrews has a solid reputation:

Is it gonna be the 5090 0r the 500a

and by the way Sevenoaks is in Wetherby not Leeds, if you need to make the trip!

so it's much closer for you.

Can recommend the Clearer Audio Copperline Alpha and Russ Andrews Powermax Plus as two good budget cables - definitely worth a go. Plus anyone who's suspicious of the 60 day home trials, I can say they are true to their word - I initially got the Clearer Audio Silverline but wasn't convinced I was getting £200 worth of improvements so sent it back (clearly you need a better system than mine for this sort of cable!). All money refunded including the postage costs of returning it so it didn't cost me a penny - well recommended.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to have an electrician run a new socket into where your equipment is and then use shorter runs from there, rather than run five metres of power cable?

Last time I had it done was about fifty quid to have a socket put in, and that's London prices.

Thanks for that John

It wouldn't be a problem to do

I would still want to buy a better power cable though.

Massively Correct!

and the removal of an eye level socket if I move house!

Need to price a cord up first, I can do the plug option myself and get it tested if need be

Thanks anyhow.
