Consolidate region-free DVD and Blu ray into one player or not worth it?

Hi folks,

Do standard def DVDs look better on a 1080HD TV when played through a HDMI connected blue ray player? Just wondering whether I should buy a Blu ray player with region free DVD functionality, or if it's really not worth it, stick with my current DVD scart connected player for when I want to dip back into my DVD collection, and simple spend the extra cash on a higher-spec Blu ray player.
