Shame you have to buy 5 versions of the same music to finally get one that satisfies. Whatever the reason BIA on SACD sounds stunning on my system and should on the OP's as he has an identical setup. Look forward to his view.
Indeed, it's ridiculous really. I'm still waiting to find a really good (stereo) digital version of DSotM; I was disappointed with the most recent remaster, it sounds just like the version I already owned except louder, including the "Ticket To Ride" print-through at the end, which isn't on my vinyl copy but is on my 1990s CD, and so comes from whatever nth generation copy was used for the the original A-D transfer, carried out in the 80s. This in turn proves they didn't go back to the original tapes to produce the latest remaster, just as far back as whichever nth-generation copy had the Ticket To ride print-through on it.
With regards to BIA there's no reason why it shouldn't sound as good on CD as it does on SACD seeing as it was recorded at 16/44.1 PCM, and neither DSD nor hi-res playback can add anything to it which wasn't there to start with. The fact you say the SACD sounds better (and I'm not doubting you) just proves it's all about the master, rather than the format in most cases. Certainly that must be true for BIA, and countless other albums from the same period which have only existed as 16/44 digital recordings to start with.

PS. Recently read a report from vinyl lovers in the USA saying that their versions were compressed compared to the European album.
Yeah it's not uncommon for EU and US to be completely different mixes or different masters of the same song. It's been going on years, as far back as the Beatles if not further.
